  • 300 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt OK. Could've pushed harder. Haven't put forth nearly enough time in the pool lately.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more!
Transition 1
  • 02m 4s
Comments:

Took a few extra moments to put on wool socks due to the freezing weather. Decided against putting gloves on and regretted it the rest of the race.
What would you do differently?:

Take the few seconds to put on gloves when it's 30 outside....
Bike
  • 25m 46s
  • 9 miles
  • 20.96 mile/hr
Comments:

Not too bad. Felt good and comfortable on the bike. Pushed a little bit. Definitely have room for improvement though.
What would you do differently?:

Train more. Continue trainerroad workouts at home.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Cramped bad when I tried to pull on my shoes. Never had that happen in brick training. Maybe due to the cold weather? My calves cramped up and my frozen hands couldn't get my shoes on. I had to stand and stretch then repeat the effort. Finally got them on and headed out.
What would you do differently?:

Stretch out my calves and spin lightly for a bit on the bike before coming into T2.
Run
  • 21m 14s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 15s  min/km
Comments:

Calves loosened up after a K or two. Didn't keep the pace I had planned. Again, I didn't take the 2 seconds to grab my gloves in transition. Dumb idea.
What would you do differently?:

More tempo runs and speed work during training. Broke a toe a few weeks ago and that limited running/swimming but for the future I need to add more speed work to perform better.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around the area for awhile.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cold weather possibly. Lack of recent swim training. Broken toe a few weeks before limited running. Lack of intensity in training.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

Are these races too close together to give me any sort of recovery? Will I be spent and unhappy racing back to back weekends and then again two weeks after that?

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

Since your “A” race is your marathon, which you stated in your question, this should be your main focus. I encourage you to taper a bit for the sprint distance triathlon.
