| Swim
Comments: Again, I swam a lot extra. I think I added 5-10 minutes onto my time. Otherwise, I felt strong. I am not great at sighting though, or it was just not good conditions. The sun would be in my eyes and my goggles were fogged so I couldn't see the buoy. At one point I was swimming to the wrong buoy and someone in a kayak had to chase me down to tell me. Then I went to that buoy anyway after rounding the right one, which is where I should've gotten out. I was in no man's land so didn't see anyone else getting out. What would you do differently?: Not swam extra... Transition 1
Comments: I could've been faster but I was still reeling from my stupidity in the swim so wasn't really focused. What would you do differently?: Move on without focusing on what I had just done in the swim. Bike
Comments: Again, I was really upset about the swim, probably for the first half of the bike. I was also (again) in no man's land. I passed a few people but mostly had people passing me in aero helmets with aero bars. My arms were really tired from the swim and I had a hard time holding my body comfortably. I also had a pain in my lower right glute and was uncomfortable the entire ride. I've never felt so negative during a tri. About halfway through I had the thought of "if this were a sprint I would be off this damn bike by now." Shortly after that I was like, I need to not be so negative and tried to change my thoughts to be positive and try to ignore the pain. I also spent the last 5 miles trying to wake my toes up for the run. What would you do differently?: Bike more to train. I say this every tri. It's just really difficult for me to find time to bike. And I really dislike it to be honest. In a group I enjoy it, but by myself I do not. And I don't push myself. Transition 2
Comments: I did okay but definitely could've been better. I was just so happy to be sitting on the ground instead of the bike. What would you do differently?: maybe not sit down Run
Comments: I, for the 3rd time that day, ended up in no man's land around mile 2. My toes had finally woken up but I was tired and facing 4 more miles. Then a girl caught up to me and reminded me I was racing. We ran together for the next mile and a half or 2 miles. I started to pull ahead a little and thought she would come but she didn't, but I felt really great and knew I had a lot left in me, so I took off. Felt strong for the rest of the race and just picked people off. This is definitely the best I've ever felt running in a tri. I'm very happy with my run training leading up to this race. What would you do differently?: Nothing! Post race Warm down: Walked around for a bit waiting for my friend to finish. Stretched. That's pretty much it. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swimming extra, not enough bike training. Event comments: This was a very well done event. Very organized and lots of volunteers who were always ready to answer a question or give water or gatorade. We also had great weather, so nice work on coordinating that :-) Last updated: 2017-10-02 12:00 AM |

Woke up and got ready, ate some cereal w/ almond milk. Had to do packet pickup in the morning and got there a little later than we should've, so we were a bit rushed. Got there at 7am and transition closed at 7:45 (I thought it closed at 8 for some reason). Rushed around, got everything done, ate a hard boiled egg and a Kind bar and drank some water before walking to the swim start, which was about a 5 minute walk.
I didn't really warm up. Figured I would use the swim to warm up :-)
