Swim
Comments: Straightforward point to point swim. The swim was wet suit mandatory, so this was my first wet suit swim of the year. I was in the 5th and final wave for the swim, which was a positive since I was able to watch the waves prior to me. The current was going out faster than expected and swimmers were being pulled past the bouys on the right side. I started towards the left (towards bridge) and then sighted the last bouy during the swim. We were swimming into the sun, so sighting was a little difficult and I had to pop up a few times too navigate. The exit of the swim was on a rocky beach, single file up the ramp and then a decent run into the far end of transition. What would you do differently?: Technically, nothing different. I did not swim much since my prior triathlon on July 8 and I could have tried to get past the walkers on the ramp up to the parking lot/transition area, but it would really have only had a couple minute impact on my overall time. Transition 1
Comments: The transition area was set up a little differently than I was used to with a long aisle way up the middle and long lines of bikes on each side, instead of rows. Transition was well numbered, but I ran past my bike at first (oops!). What would you do differently?: Remember my race number. Bike
Comments: Bike felt great, pretty flat course with a few smaller hills. There was a loop turnaround in the middle with a tighter than anticipated turn, which I could have handled better, but had little overall impact to my race. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: ran past my bike spot again....geez, why can I not remember my race number?!? Run
Comments: My time was faster than it felt. The first mile felt good, got into my groove and held it there for another half a mile, then I felt a little nauseous (like usual) around 1.5 miles in; I skipped the water stop due to the nausea. I was somehow able to get over the nausea, but then immediately got a side stitch under my right rib cage (ouch!). I tried to breathe it out, but had to slow down a little because of it. I finally got to the bridge, the last half mile of the 5k and it felt like the longest run of my life. I think 4 people passed me in the last mile of the race, but I finished!! What would you do differently?: I will need to research the nausea and side stitch issues more. If I can get through the run without either of these issues, the run would be a lot more pleasant and probably faster. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a little and then biked back to my car What limited your ability to perform faster: nausea and side stitch during run Event comments: Great event in a beautiful location! Last updated: 2019-09-24 12:00 AM
