Comments: Temperature was 85F at check-in and 105F at the finish. I figured hydration would be an issue, and wore my Camelbak Flashflo, even though I figured it would slow me down. Course was an out and back starting and finishing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Water stations were available every mile from 3 to 10 and at 11. Support vehicles also delivered water. Did my best to keep a steady pace. Walked through drink stations. Legs started cramping at about 10miles. I had strained a hamstring in a footchase saturday and it still bothered to run with it. Did more walking in the last couple of miles. What would you do differently?: In ideal conditions I wouldn't have carried the flashflo. These were not ideal conditions. Post race
Warm down: Walking What limited your ability to perform faster: I was about three weeks bhind in my training program. Event comments: It was my first half marathon and I finished about 7 minutes slower than I wanted...but I finished. The race was made more difficult by the heat. The race staff had set up drink tables prior to the race, and then went out after the race start and found out they had been stolen. They did well improvising with the vehicles available. Spent the previous day making the drive to Las Vegas and drinking as much water as I could, which made for even more pit stops.
Breakfast was kind of a blur...I'm thinking PBJ and fresh fruit. Left early and arrived early despite getting lost.
Light jogging, some stretching, and a couple of trips to the johnny.
