Anyone take part in the Tuesday nite hill workout ride at Conte's Arlington store? (http://contebikes.com/page.cfm?pageID=571) Is there fun to be had? Whats the overall pace?

I only go to the BBQs that my tri team sometimes has afterwards b/c we ride with them, but I know that there are a lot of really good, hard-core roadie types who go on Tuesdays.

They are pretty good training rides, the A group starts off with hill work on Military Rd, then goes to a loop off Nelly custis that has a steep little hill and does laps there.  The B group does them in reverse order.

I only rode with the B group and there wasn't really a group pace the night I rode.  Everyone met back up after the majority had done their laps then moved on to Military.  Someone stayed at each spot to make sure everyone was together.   Very relaxed to do your own workout.

A group was definitely faster and I think they added in a few more hills around Military, will do that one next time.

I go to this ride every other week.  It's pretty much as descibed ^^^^^.  But also, the A ride doesn't stay on military for the start of their ride but turns off and does some hillier streets around mililtary before heading over to the crit, (whhat the loop with the steep hill is called).  The A group is led by a group of Coppi riders and as far as I know stay in a group.  But I don't ride with them since I'm on a tri bike and don't want to ride in a group on my horns, though I don't think that be a problem for the group.  Also I'm not sure I could keep up.

The B group is just as described.

There is also a C group, especially on the weeks I'm there.  When Team Z shows up the C group expands significantly.  They will hang back from the A and B groups at the head of military, and once the A's are clear will just ride up and down military, which has a bike lane in each direction.  The C group has no one pace but strings out along the route in small clusters of equal pace riders.

Also, unless called away, there is a police escort at the start from Conte's to Lee's Hwy.  Which makes for a nice prcession down Quincy.

The typical size of the ride will be btwn 50 and 70 riders.

Most significantly to mention is that on the first Tuesday of the month the ride ends with a free BBQ in the conte's parking lot.  On these days, if the weather is good the ride expands to about 100 riders.

Do you think the B group would allow tri bikes?

I know better than to rider aero in a pack or tight pace line, but if they're more spread out (2-3 bike lengths) it might be OK.

Didn't pay attention to A or C but there were tri-bikes on the B ride.  Don't think it's a problem at all.

Team Z's Tuesday night ride is in conjunction with the Conte's ride, as Ray said. And we've never gotten an email saying that they weren't allowed (Coach Ed would inform us of something like that - even though I don't go to those rides, the email comes to the entire group).

Wow. Must be darn good BBQ.
