Subject: FOR SALE: Specialized Transition Expert

2006 Specialized Transition Expert Triathlon/TT bicycle with many upgrades

 Size = 56

Asking price = $2,000 [list price is more than $3,400 with upgrades]

There were five Transition models in 2006 – the only model higher than the Expert was the top-of-the-line S-Works version.  The DuraAce/Ultegra components were all stock equipment on the Expert and this unit also has a lot of upgrades.

The odometer shows that I have ridden this bike for a whopping 87 miles and this includes mostly inside riding on a CycleOps Fluid 2 trainer and I am the second owner.  I purchased this bike to compete in several triathlons.  I really like the bike, but having 3 bikes is too much for me right now.  Thus, I have decided to sell all of my existing bikes and consolidate to just a single bike [probably an entry level road bike].  As much as I really like this bike, I cannot ride it as often as I would like and I go on way more family rides vs. solo training rides.

I bought this bicycle after my first triathlon where I had used my mountain bike and watched people on tri bikes pass me like I was standing still.  I bought this bike a few weeks later and reduced my bicycle phase time by 33% navigating the same course.  Amazing!  I was impressed by how light the bike was compared to my mountain bikes but even more impressed that I went 25 mph on my very first ride on it – with nylon pedals borrowed from one of my mountain bikes.  25 mph may not be impressive to some, but for an out of shape (at the time) guy like myself, going 25 mph on a bicycle was a big deal.  The carbon fiber bits are impressive, and the most impressive carbon fiber piece to me, is the carbon fiber steering tube – pretty cool.

There is a Cateye Strada computer installed that has speed, cadence and other features.  The computer is attached to the aero bars via a Profile Design bracket designed specifically for aerobar mounting.

The bike is located in the greater Cleveland, OH area and can be shipped if needed.  I have a box as well as a bracket for the front axle.  I usually check the BT site and email in the evenings.  Additional pictures can be sent.

Specifications from the Specialized web site follow, with upgrades noted, and a summary of the $1,015 upgrades is as follows:

Thanks for the interest.  Since I am not a bike fitter, I should not definitively claim whether or not it would fit you.  For reference, I am 5 ft 10 in and the package does include 3 stems for some adjustment.

If you would like to continue your interest, we could each take some measurements of ourselves and compare.

The planets must have been aligned perfectly today because I was actually able to go on a training ride today and follow it up with a run.  Thus, the odometer now shows that I have put a whopping 101.5 miles on it.  This was only my second ride on pavement this year and I just rode the sprint course used for a local triathlon that is held near my house.  The turn around for the bike phase is just outside my neighborhood.

I am not an expert cyclist and this thing just amazes me how I can make it go 25 mph with just my legs - and without having an internal combustion engine strapped to it - and without having a heart attack!  I know 24 mph is not a big deal to everyone, but considering that I only ride it a few times per year, and that I could only go 12 mph on my mountain bike, 24 mph is a big deal to me.

I recently had the bike on display at the Greater Cleveland Triathlon at Headlands Beach in Mentor, OH and told a few folks that I was offering the bike for $1,800.  Thus, if anyone here is interested, the $1,800 offer stands until 8/31/09.
