Subject: e-reader program for tablet?

After almost managing to convince myself to by a tablet, was told by a friend yesterday that he has one he doesn't need, so I got it as a "loan" for an unlimited time.

 

Which was cool.

 

One of the things I want to do is use it as an e-reader. Is there a program that is good for this, or do I convert books to PDF's, and use adobe?

Suggestions? If it is relevant, the tablet is a Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Kindle has a reader. Here is a list of some apps you can get for that Samsung. That's a nice tablet- jealous!

X3 for Kindle, also my Acer Tablet came with an app (shortcut to a folder) that is actually called eReading.  I have never used it but it has under it, LumiRead, Nook, Zinio Reader and another one simply labeled Books.  Looks like many formats supported including Adobe.  There may be something similar already on your Samsung.

No matter what you choose, make sure you get a program called Calibre, it's free and it will convert just about any format to any format.  I use it convert everything to Kindle format, every once in awhile it goofs something up, but I have never not been able to read a book that was converted.

I have kindle on my desktop, but it doesn't seem to be free for tablets. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Yeah, I doubt amazon would charge anyone for the Kindle app, as that's their primary vehicle for selling ebooks.

Yep, kindle app is free. There is a google reader as well, which replicates the page turning more accurately, but I use my kindle app for most of the books, since I linked it to mrs gearboy's kindle account.

B&N's Nook also has a free Android app.  Lots of public libraries offer free downloads in Adobe EPUB format (which Nook uses), and many are starting to offer Kindle downloads as well.

Kindle app is free and I really like it.  My daughters each have a Kindle and we share books on the same account.  I just deposit some money into her Amazon account and we all buy books and share.  Great way to share books.
