I know this has been beaten to death but I cannot believe it hasn't sold out yet. I know all the reasons people don't sign up but man it seems like a long time that there have been entries available. Maybe I should be worrying more than I am about the heat and humidity.

You should not be worring about the heat, humidity, or phase of the moon on raceday. I did the race this year as my 1st IM. It was a great race. You will have a blast.

You know going in that, in all likelihood, it will be hot and humid. The race takes place in August, after all. Train accordingly.

Worry about the things you CAN control, the weather not being one of them. The one sort of "zen" thing I learned from my first IM experience is that on raceday you must race according to YOUR fitness. So your goal is to be as fit as you possibly can come race day, and to have your capabilities completely dialed in well before that. If you accomplish those things the rest will fall into place.

Not only are you doing an ironman that is something that less than 1/10 of 1% of people would ever even consider doing but you are doing the ironman event that even seasoned ironman don't want to tackle!  Ya da ma!

I think Ironman races are reaching their saturation point.  Perhaps the supply has exceeded the demand?

Also this is WTC race, not a NA race so maybe that has something to do with it. . .???

Don't worry about the weather, just worry about your training.  You could sign up for any race on any date and the weather could be 100 or 50. .. rain or shine. . you never know. .

Don't worry.  Train in the correct conditions and you will be fine!  I LOVED the race!!!  The heat & humidity are rough, but it is managable.  I am sure each race has something that is a negative.

it's not heat and humidity...IMWI 05 has been hottest for several years now

doesn't sell out right away because the bike course sucks.   too much traffic.

word is getting out.

nothing beats WI bike course and it's so close geographically and time of year so folks prefer WI.

 IMHO

I disagree.  Wisconsin has a chance for warm temperatures that time of year but it's not essentially guaranteed to be hot and humid like it is in Louisville during August.

People around here tend to think it's crazy to be held in August in KY.  The only reason I can think of is that July and August are the dryest months here so the river will be low/calm and less polluted.

I think it's a combination of the weather, no wetsuit swim, and the proximity to IMWI and IMFL that tend to deter people.

Traffic wasn't a problem for me.  It was hot but I appreicated that I could count on the heat rather than doing a will it or won't it all summer and not knowing what to plan for.  It most likely will be hot & it will most likely be non-wetsuit legal.  Train for it & enjoy it - it is a great race!!

Well I haven't been on other bike courses so I can't compare, but Kentucky didn't totally suck. I wish there were some shoulders on the road, so you could get out of the way of the traffic, but once you get out of town (the first 10 miles?) the roads are fine with regards to traffic. The first 10 miles though, if you were to ride on it outside of race day, would be scary. Two lane road, no shoulder and tons of traffic.

Honestly, there were way more bikes than cars to dodge on the road.

But yeah, once you get out of that first flat section, it's fine.

I really think it's the heat that keeps people from signing up.

You have to look at where it falls also....

By that late in the season those people who are trying to qualify for Kona have either done so already or are not interested since you would only have about 6 weeks to prepare for the race.

I do however think that the races reputation for heat and humidity have scared alot of folks off.

Yeah....wimps!

The irony is, it was not bad at all.  I trained in much hotter/humid weather and found the temps in Louisville to be very tollerable.

In my (biased) mind, it's the best kept m-dot IM secret!
