I just saw this on the Cincy Express forums.  Anyone done or doing this?  It looks awesome to me.  Ten bucks for a tri (albeit apparently informal)?  Very cool.  Must be a USAT member, though.  Glad I just became one.

Wheelie Fun and Speedy Feet proudly introduce the Wednesday night triathlon series. No frills. Just Fun.  Come get a little tune-up to prepare for your next race!!

Where: Caesar Creek State Park (at the beach)

When: June 17, July 1, July 15, July 29

Time: 6pm

Distance: 1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike, 5k run

Cost: $10

Race day entry only. You must present your USAT card in order to participate (for insurance purposes).

Wow, cool. Too bad it's all the way down in Ceasers creek. Deer Creek is more convenient for me. But still $10 for a (apparently) timed tri is unbeatable.

OK, after talking about this with some folks, it turns out this is the first time for this.  I won't be able to race this Wednesday, but I've got nothing in July and will try to do all three.

Where is Caesar Creek located?  North or south of Columbus?

It's south of Columbus.  It's in Warren County, though on the near eastern border really, very close to Clinton County.  The bike course is nice and the run is pretty much dead flat.  I haven't been swimming there yet so I can't comment on that.

About 10 minutes from my house.

I'd like to, but I'm 10 weeks into a 20 week HIM plan and I don't think I can fit it in without negatively impacting all the other workouts. I have a really hard time not giving 100% during races and it seems to take me longer than most people to recover from races.

Maybe I'll just show up and bandit the swim. Caesar's Creek is a great place for OWS.

I totally understand.  Which HIM are you doing?  I'm planning on Toyota.

OK, so here's what I've learned about the event since Wednesday's first race:

It was a really fun event, with a grassroots kind of feel to it.  There were about 40 participants.  The swim was a time trial start around the park's buoys and then up to Transition.

To avoid the rush-hour traffic on Route 73, they didn't do the Caesar Creek race Sprint course, but had several right turns around the lake for a 20 mile bike NOT a 12.

The run was into the woods.  Then, instead of going straight back to the dam section, you turned left onto the paved park road.  Then it was back to the parking lot to do another lap.

The results are up at http://www.speedy-feet.com/ if you want to check it out.

Yeah, for 10 bucks, I'm going to have to do the rest of these in July.

I'm going to do the one at the Great Buckeye Challenge in Aug. I will also be out a Caesar's Creek on July 5th for the Oly.
