Does anyone here push an elliptical crank? I've never heard of it until this morning.

Did you hear about it watching the Tour de France? That was my first time to hear of it, too. It sounds brilliant.

I remember someone mentioning elliptical cranks when trying to sell me a bike maybe 10 or 15 years ago.

I know a saw a conversation about this a few months ago. I belive someone said something about Q-rings being an elliptical option. I know there was an old school type that was elliptical, bio something, but the brand has left me. Anyways, as far as benefit, I am sure there are some expert cyclist that can comment.

Not being one to throw anything away, this is sitting in my backyard.  It was on my wife's bike.  You can see how often it is used.  I think this bike is from 1991 or so.  Last time I heard about biopace it kind of faded away.  I'm thinking it may not be that bad for a low cadence high torque rider.

I bought a Diamond Back Apex MTB the year they came out (85 or 86 I think), and it had a Biopace elliptical crank.  The frame, with crank mounted, is hanging in my garage.

I guess everything from that era's coming back in vogue

Count me in on the folks who used to have a MTB with an elliptical crank.  I seem to recall people saying that you got more "power" but that they fell out of favor.  Something about screwing up peoples knees.   I do remember getting on the roads and feeling that uneven stroke.

Being the amateur that I am I'd stick with my happy little perfect circle drills and let the pro's squeeze out an extra 10 watts.
