Master 1853![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() syracuse | Subject: "If you're mood changes, eat"My ride had some nasty wind today, and at about mile 35 I started cussing out the wind. Like F bomb cussing it, as if it could actually hear me. I thought of a quote from the bible, "when your mood changes, eat." so I ate. not sure if it was mental or what, but I felt better, even though I was still head on into the wind. Not only that, its funny how a tailwind can cure fatigue. on the way back, it was fun. Nothing like a little tailwind to finish off a long ridge! anyway, thought Id share.... |

Member 124![]() | Subject: RE: "If you're mood changes, eat"Interesting about the food, sounds like a good mental boost at least, but I feel you on the wind part. My regular pre-work ride is a 9 mile loop (performed 2-4 times depending on how much I slept in) typically with significant wind. It's an oblong loop, with the wind direction parallel to the long sides. Which means on really windy days when I'm fighting that headwind, I know sweet relief is just around the bend. But the bast@rd tricks me every time, because I know it'll be back, just around the bend after next. |

Master 2407![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Bellevue, WA | Subject: RE: "If you're mood changes, eat"One of the best things about getting a power meter is that a headwind no longer makes me angry. I'm riding by power, not speed, so if I'm trying to stay around say 170 watts and it doesn't matter if my speed is 15, or 17, or 19 mph, headwind or crosswind or tailwind. So you no longer find me cussing into the wind, literally. My mood is much improved. |

I have a PM, and 190 into the wind is worse than 230 with the wind at your back..... may no make sense scientifically, but I was cussing at 190, and having the time of my life at 230 but your point is very legitimate, and I thought about it while riding. It is probably all mental on my part Edited by cusetri 2009-08-30 6:20 AM |

Hmmm... wonder what translation that is? Do you know a book or chapter? The quote is completely unfamiliar to me, and I've been studying the Bible for a while now, so I'm suspecting the book of "There Somewhere." (You know, kinda like, "cleanliness is next to godliness." Someone who INSISTS it's in the Bible will flip pages for 5 minutes then declare, "well, it's in There Somewhere!" There's a lot of wacky stuff in that one, apparently.) Sounds like you might have cured a blood sugar dip though, nice way to finish your ride. |

I should have correctly referenced the appropriate book in my OP, ... ![]() |

Veteran 215![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: "If you're mood changes, eat"LOL, yeah, I was wondering what verse that was, too! I was thinking really? That's in the Bible...wondering what obscure meaning it had. And I've spent more time recently reading Friel's but still didn't make that connection. |
