Would it be possible to add a field for the serving size when creating a custom food?

I saw a "Measurement" field was added to the custom food creation page.  Thanks!  If I could make a couple suggestions though:

As is it config'd now, the measurement always has a "1" place before it on the nutriton log.  Could this be removed?  Most of the foods I entered are serving sizes of 1/2 Cup or 4 oz, for example.  If that "1" is there, it shows up at "1 1/2 Cup" and "1 4 oz".  There are also foods, like tortillas, that have a serving size of "2 Tortillas", but it shows up as "1 2 Tortillas".  I'd rather have it show up as just 1/2 Cup, 2 Tortillas, etc.

Also, this is a little contradictory to the first suggestion, but could the Measurement field be broked up into two seperate fields - Amount and Measurement.  This way, if I have a serving size of 1/2 Cup, I can enter 1/2 for the Amount for Cup for the Measurement.  This would also work well with the tortillas, for example, and other packaged items.

Makes sense?

Thanks-

Rob

Here is what we did-try it out, see if it's better-although you may get an error in the nutrition blog...working on it...

"They enter their custom measurement in the format XXX.XXX and the system will pick up on this and automatically multiply it out. It will take effect on new log updates (or they can click 'update' on each of their foods)

For example, "2 tortillas" * 2 QTY would be displayed as "4 tortillas". Similarly, a custom food of "1.5 cans" * 3 would be displayed as "4.5 cans"

The only limitation to this is that if they are using a fractional measurement on their custom food, they must enter it as a decimal. 0.5 instead of 1/2"

(This is now exactly how the non-custom foods work BTW)

I was editing my meals and I noticed something else regarding this.  This works fine, unless the food has a QTY of 1.  For example, the serving size of "2 Toritillas" with a QTY of 1 shows up in the print out as "1 2 Toritillas", but if you put in a QTY of 2 (or more), then the printout shows "4 Toritillas".  This happens for any other custom when the measurement field is used a QTY of 1 is entered.

Thanks a ton-

Rob

You should be good...we didn't entirely carry-over the custom food serving size mod to the 'save as recipe' option which you were using in the second case....

Ron-

I just printed out another nutrition log.  Custom foods are still showing up with a serving size of "1 2 Tortillas", etc, as described above.

Hi Rob, please check again. You are right, looks like it needed to be copied over to another spot as well!
