Subject: HELP! Housewarming gift for a married triathlete?

I'm terrible at this kind of stuff (although individuals love the gifts I give for personal things like birthdays, I'm really foggy on specific things like ... um ... housewarming gifts). Good triathlete friend of mine, guy piglet, married with a cute kid, is having a new house party tomorrow ...

Bottle of wine?

He's also an avid diver, but what difference does that make?

Maybe I could bring something for his little girl? I mean, nobody's going to think of bringing her a present ...

AAAAAH help, please, thank you.

A housewarming gift is usually something for the house rather than for the owner's hobbies.   Perhaps a framed photo or painting of one of Bali's famous beaches or, if you want to go with a tri them, something artsy from the Bali Tri.

You could take this picture yourself.  We know you have the skills.

As TW said the gift us usally for the house so..... How about a nice vase then you cna bring flowers seperatly for the little girl. You can even add a nice bottle of wine for the party to top it off.

Moving is stressful.  Parties are stressful... Bring a bottle of wine and offer to babysit the kid while they get some time to relax this weekend.

One interesting suggestion I learned over the holidays:

Buy a nice platter and then make a cake or cookies or other snack and give them the whole thing and they obviously keep the platter.

It's great on the holidays because you don't have to worry about getting your plate back, and everyone give wine, they get a gift, and the homemade treats also make it  personal.

wwlani - 2012-07-15 11:17 AM Gift for the kid They will see how much you care about her and since they care about her you care about them!

I wound up bringing her a little school satchel/purse with lots of compartments for different things. Two of them just happened to have bags of gummy bears (a delicacy here, hard to get!) She ate the bears, shared them with other children who came to the party (nice girl) and was so happy with the satchel she carried it around during the whole party

I wound up getting the folks a bottle of wine, which they served. I was gonna go for a fruit basket but I couldn't find one.

Great suggestions, everyone, and I definitely need to keep them in mind because hopefully it won't be the last housewarming party I'm invited to. Actually I met such nice people at the party I got invited to two more, but they're not housewarming parties. But I bet I could bring similar presents.

Nothing says congratulations like a Zipp 808 front and disc rear wheel. Just be sure if he rides Campy or Shimano. It would be gauche to buy the incorrect free hub.

Best housewarming gift I received was home baked bread and a box of Kosher salt. Bread so you'll never go hungry and salt so life will always have flavor. I had never heard of the custom until I was the recipient.
