Subject: Uploading Workout Errors

Not sure if this is a BT problem or has to do with only having an ADSL+ connection (cannot wait until the national broadband network reaches my apt building), but since it doesn't happen on either Strava / Garmin Connect I think it's a problem here.   I find that generally my workouts take a bit longer to upload here, so maybe it's things timing out on my end?  Not sure.

I'm using Garmin 305 / Chrome to upload workouts.  I sync the device properly and my workouts show up as they should.  However, in the ~4-5 I might set to upload at a time usually 1-2 don't upload properly (get the red exclamation point / message stating "upload error").   After the other 3-4 upload properly, I can sometimes start the upload process over with the remaining 1-2 and sometimes it works / other times I get the same error.

When it doesn't work the second time, I can go to the day off the workout in my log and click 'upload workout' under the specific sport and have never had any issues.  But this takes considerably longer as I have to do workouts 1 by 1.

I did some looking around and didn't see anyone else having these issues.   Any tips on what might be going on / how to avoid it?

Thanks!

MC

How often do you delete data from the unit? In my experience, most problems involving a 305 are due to there being a too many workouts stored on it.   I typically delete anything older than 30 days from mine.

Hey Mike.

I didn't know I'm supposed to delete workouts from my 305, I have been storing everything!  Went back and found my IM results from 18 months ago!  Nonetheless, I deleted everything older than a week and am still having the upload errors.

Tried once and got 1/3, tried a second time and got 0 of the remaining 2.   I'll probably upload them one day at a time tomorrow - that seems to work 100% of the time.   As a note, I was able to upload to Strava in ~30 seconds, Garmin Connect in ~20 seconds and I've been working on getting the same workouts to BT for 15 still....

So strange, right?  I find that when I'm uploading the rest of the site seems to freeze on me.  I thought it was my connection, but I can access other sites with no lag.

Any ideas?

Which method are you using? The "Import from Garmin" button or the "Upload" page? Does this happen on both of them?

If I am on a specific date, I can use the 'upload from garmin' and this works 100% of the time.   when I use the generic upload button (which I would like to use when I upload ~1 week of data at a time) I get the issues that I wrote about below.

I have difficult to upload data from my 310xt, but I think it's not a BT problem.

My Garmin Comunicator Plugin doesn't see it also in the garmin connect site and I have only 2 workouts to upload and store in the device.

I try on windows (chrome, IE and firefox) and mac (chrome) without result

Sounds like we have different issues then.. Because mine is definitely a problem only on BT. I'm still holding out faith that mike can come up with a good solution for me!

Try uninstalling Communicator then reinstalling. I recently had to do that for a 305. Other units worked fine, but Communicator wouldn't see the 305.

This is such a specific issue, I'm trying to recreate it. One thing: can you tell me the firmware version on your 305?

Hey Mike.  I just bought a Garmin 910xt and was upload ~4 workouts within 15 seconds.   Tried to upload a final workout from the 305 and it took about 5 mins.

Just wanted to drop you a quick line and let you know it's probably just the stupid 305 that was causing me issues.

Thanks for the help on this.

Thanks for the update.  We'll stay on the lookout for any other 305 issues to try to figure that out.
