Champion 26509 Sydney | Subject: Caisse D'Epargne Team Thread Hi Team Caisse D’Epargne,
Welcome to the Tour De France Bike Challenge 2008. One of the strongest teams in the Tour De France this year, team leader Alejandro Valverde will be hoping for a successful placing on the GC on his fourth attempt at the race. The designated team leader will be supported by 2006 Tour De France winner Oscar Pereiro who is a phenomenal climber and competitor. On BT, your team line up for the challenge is: 1. bang182 2. BriPod 3. bryank14 4. daijoubu 5. El Flaco 6. guppymonster 7. LawStudent 8. spokes Now you have found the team thread, introduce yourself to your team mates below with some information which could include name, goals or info on your current bike(s). Reporting for the challenge over the next three weeks will take place in three blocks matching the Tour De France racing days. The dates are as follows: Week 1: 5th – 14th July Week 2: 15th – 21 July Week 3: 22 – 27 July Your team has a tracking spreadsheet set up and active in google spreadsheet. To open the spreadsheet click on this link: To login to Google Docs: Username: btchallenge Password: challengeforum You can update the spreadsheet at any time to track your own, and your teams progress. I will be grabbing each teams results to date and posting a challenge update that includes all of the teams progress and any interesting tid bits from the various team threads. This update will be posted at the end of the each reporting week listed above. The winning team will be determined by the team with the highest percentage of goal achieved. No one can go over 100% of goal and if more than one team hits 100% then there is more than one winning team! To remind everyone to post their updates, and I recommend that you nominate a team leader to help with reminding everyone to report in each week. But the job of inspiring and motivating your team mate really does rest with each individual so don’t forget to give everyone some regular encouragement here in the team thread and through inspires on training logs. I will try to pop in regularly to see how your team is getting on. If there are any questions throughout the course of the challenge let me know, I will pop back in the next 24 hours with some additional information and rider profiles for your Tour De France team before the action kicks off on the roads of France. Happy Pedaling Cat |

Pro 4339 Husker Nation | Subject: RE: Caisse D'Epargne Team Thread w00t! I don't know anything about pro cycling but apparently one of the guys who's on the "real" Cassie D'Epargne team is Luke Wilson - how cool is that?! [see photo above] I'm getting ready to head out on a 50-miler, wish I could count that toward our totals. Happy 4th, team, and stay safe! |

Veteran 165 Aylmer, Qc | Subject: RE: Caisse D'Epargne Team Thread Howdy team!! Looking forward to making sure we finish this virtual TdF wearing yellow!!! I am from Aylmer, Quebec, Canada and train (or at least try to!) and race in Duathlons (mostly Sprint distances). My next race is July 13th in Carleton Place Ontario (2k-20k-5k). I keep my BT updated daily with my training, so don't hesitate to drop by and say hi. I will also make sure to leave "inspires" to my teammates so can all get things done. No matter what you goal is, let's go out there and have some fun. It's always great to have a motivator like this to boost! My goals are very straight forward: 21 stages and 2 days off (like the TdF) and volume of 1365 minutes (which is 25% of the total time of 2007 winner Alberto Contador). Things will roll out tomorrow with a 2.5 hour ride... but only on my MTB since I will be up in the bushes at my dad's place. Shorter ride (45 minutes) on Sunday followed by a run. My log will be updated on Monday, since I won't have an internet connection starting tonight. So let's have some fun!!! |

Pro 4339 Husker Nation | Subject: RE: Caisse D'Epargne Team Thread I'm from Lincoln, Nebraska, USA. Home of the Nebraska Cornhuskers college teams and not much else. We're about a 45min. drive from Omaha where the US Olympic Swimming Trials are currently being held. Omaha is also known for Warren Buffet, the origin of Enron [before they moved to NY], and the Von Maur shooting last fall/winter. I just finished my first half IM three weeks ago and was in desperate need of some motivation, despite the two green blurbs on my calendar at the end of the month. I have signed up for 11 stages, 250 miles. I have a duathlon on July 13 of 2/12/2mi and two sprints at the end of the month - 500y/12/3.1mi, and 1k/21k/5k. Subtracting those out of my goal leaves me with 8 stages to cover 214 mi, or just a shade under 27 mi. per ride. It will definitely be a challenge for me so let's get to it! |

It's smokin' That's actually why I wrote down Caisse d'Epargne as one of my team choices. Colors match my bike, tires, gear... Not that it's important of course! |

Veteran 165 Aylmer, Qc | Subject: RE: Caisse D'Epargne Team Thread Okay, I will try to put a phonetic. BTW, I am a francophone, so that might explain some of the typos or syntax errors. English is not my first language. So here we go: Caisse d'Épargne basically means Savings Bank "Caisse" would be pronounced like "case" (as in case of beer!) and would be perfectly acceptable for a non French speaker! "Épargne". Okay, more of a challenge. There is an accent on the E which would pronounce something like "Eh!", then you can tag the "par" as in par in golf terms. Then the "gne"... let me thing a bit about that one!! I got it. Thing of "lasagna"... and remember how you pronounce the "gna" at the end. Now substitute the "a" for an "e" that you would pronounce. I think I will find a mike and record it, and then post the file!!!! Or you can wait until tomorrow and watch the coverage and hear it over and over...! |

I'm not being real ambitious this year vs. last year, mainly because I'm taking vacation in the middle of the month and will be without my bike for over a week. I'll be in Des Moines visiting my parents with my children You gonna catch some RAGBRAI action while you're back in Iowa? |
