Hey everyone. I am totally new to triathlons but a few people at work have been doing sprints up to half IM and I thought it sounded like a great sport to get involved in. I am competitive by nature and this seems like a great way to meet people and compete against yourself at the same time.

I need to lose about 20 or so pounds and what better way then swim, bike and run . I started the couch to sprint program on Monday and hope to be able to complete my first tri next spring if not sooner (I am using the plan as a loose guide as to where to begin), turns out I am not the swimmer I was 15 years ago (am 30 now) and as such I am addressing this with a personal swim lesson at the Y Monday, wish me luck. You guys have great information here on the site and its extremely well layed out.

I am in NC so I look forward to one day meeting those of you in this area. Have a great weekend.

Welcome to the best tri site on the planet! Glad to have you aboard and more importantly, congrats on starting your plan to get into shape with this growing sport. The feedback here is awesome and being a previous "swimmer" at 15 and now NOT a swimmer going on 35, I know how you feel. Good luck and happy tri training!

Thanks everyone. I have to say that just reading over the boards is a great inspiration to me. Everyone in this sport seems to have a wonderful attitude about everything and it gives me a lot of get up and go on a day to day basis. I am sure I will be leaning on your expertise sometime in the not so distant future.

Welcome Joe,

So glad you joined us. This is a wonderful site. The people are great and most of all they know what they're talking about. But I have to warn you this could get addictive. Hope your job is secure, your significant other is understanding and your dog knows how to feed himself because now you'll probably be glued to a pool, bike, treadmill and your computer until you do your first tri. Good luck and happy training. Oh I know you'll be able to conquer the swimming. I can see it in your post. Good luck!

Ovetta.
