I know I have another long run to get in, and hopefully a long bike as well.

Any of you guys up for doing a group run? I did alright with my 15 miles yesterday alone, but it sure seems to go easier with other runners. Biking is always easier in a group.

I know I am going to be under-trained for IMOO, but that doesn't mean I have to be completely and utterly un-trained.

Hey Goalie. Thx for the offer, but some other Moo mates and I will be doing our last long bike and runs in Bayfield, WI next weekend.

Well, I suckered someone into riding Sunday, but if anyone needs to run 18-20 Saturday, post here, as I wimped out last weekend and only did 15 for my long run, and I need to get one more long one in.

10 min/mile slow pace per my Garmin.

Where are you at? I did a nice ride from Bloomington down through Jordan and New Prague and back that was pretty good shoulders, had gas stations to stop at every 20 miles or less, and the hill coming back out of Jordan is pretty fun.

FWIW the hill coming out of Jordan is kinda like the hill into Mt Horeb.

Where to get hills? Western WI would seem to be close - tap into Birkie. Bayfield, WI area was very similar. St Croix river valley on the MN side doesn't really compare to the quantity of hills you get at Moo.

How many hills like that Jordan hill are on the course then? Baby=no chance to ride the course like I planned, so I have no idea what to expect other than "hills."

Ask Rabka - check out his quote in the BT group ride at Moo!

Barely any of the course is really flat. Lots of smaller rollers and some short ups and downs as well as plenty of false flats.

IMO there's really four 'climbs' which are done two times each (on each loop); Mount Horeb is about .75 mi long and can mainly be done in the saddle. Old Aux Hill is about .5 mi long and winds through the trees up a bluff. It can be done in the saddle, but never seems to end as you can't really see the end of it. I didn't name the 2nd 'hill', but it's a bit shorter and steeper than Old Aux - can be done in the saddle. The third climb is 'road kill hill' and is only about .33 mi long and is a bit steeper than Old Aux - may or may not be able to do it in the saddle - depending on fatigue.

All 4 of these babies don't seem so bad on the first loop, but you'll definitely feel 'em on the 2nd.

just reading this now.. dont remember my comment though.. but I still remember the hills.. the first hill (as jeff describes) is daunghting.. particularly because you dont know when it ends...  I got out of the saddle.. but will attempt to stay in the saddle for the race.. the last hill the 2nd time around will undoubtly be a tough climb.. knowing the hills are coming and keepning it light and keeping the fast twitch in reserve and staying areo as much as possible is my strategy for 'making' past these bike leg hurdles..

Here's a quote from your log to jog your memory. "Holy crap the hills in wisconsin are freaking butal... my legs and body in general were hurting."

BTW, all 4 hills the 2nd time around will be tough and don't underestimate the leg back to mad town.

I'll disagree with the notion that the course barely has any flat areas.  It is by no means a flat course, but they are there.  For several miles before and after Cross Plains it is very flat and it's important to use that area to prepare yourself for what is coming.  Riding those 6-8 miles (guessing on the exact amount) with the appropriate effort level is in my mind very crucial, expecially on the second loop.

I agree with you however on the trip back to Madison.  There is one spot (with the nicely paved driveway on the right) where I notice myself struggling and wondering who put the hill there since the ride out to the loop.
