GARMIN UPLOAD PROBLEM - UPDATE

Champion  11641      Fairport, NY |  Subject: GARMIN UPLOAD PROBLEM - UPDATEWe've been receiving a number of reports of people experiencing problems with the latest version of Garmin Communicator. The short term fix is to downgrade to the previous version of Communicator, which you can download from the bottom of this post Garmin is aware of the problem and has described it as "trouble communicating with legacy USB fitness devices." They are in the process of working on a fix and will be releasing a new version of Communicator when it's ready. So basically if you have a 205 or 305, don't upgrade to Communicator 2.7.1. The Garmin Communicator plugin 2.71 appears to work fine with Firefox 3.0.10, but not with Safari 4.0 (5530.17), which was just released. Previously the plugin worked just fine with Safari 3, as that is what I had been using. My most recent bike workout upload was completed using Firefox 3.0.10 and plugin 2.71. Under Safari 4 one receives the error message that the communicator plugin is not detected. Oh, and I am uploading data from my Garmin Forerunner 305 on my Mac running OS X.5.7.

This corrects problems that those of use with Forerunner 305 and 205's have been experiencing. I just tested the latest Garmin Communication Plugin and find that this is not working properly with Safari 4.0 (latest in the recent set of updates). This was only on Garmins test site. I will test further with an upload later today. However, FireFox 3.011 works fine with the latest version of the plugin. A note of interest is that the social-networking browser Flock works with the latest Garmin plugin. Seems that Safari was left out of the update. |

I'm also running Mac OSX.5.7 and am experiencing an additional problem. I can connect to the BT website from the new Safari Top Sites page, but it will not connect if I type in the address itself. Firefox also works fine in both cases and the previous version of Safari worked find with the Communicator. |

With Flip-4-Mac installed Safari 4.0.1, OSX 10.5.7 and Garmin 2.7.3 the Garmin plugin is not recognized. Once Flip-4-Mac is removed all works fine. For those that might not wish to remove Flip-4-Mac I have found no issues with Firefox 3.0.10, OSX 10.5.7 and Flip-4-Mac. I am able to upload without issue. |

On a Mac you can use Firefox, which is compatible with Communicator. |
