Subject: I think I had my first bonk last night! So I decided instead of cycling to work I would run in to work (5K) and back home (5K also), I was also carrying a rucksack containing shoes, shirt and lunch which I don’t normally run with. The run in at 9am in 20C/68F heat went ok 9:07p/mile, but the run home at about 4:30pm in 28C/82F was absolutely horrific!
I averaged 10:36p/mile whereas normally I would be around 8-8:30p/mile (see training logs) but as I had a backpack I would have been happy with 9-9:30 but not 10:36! So I guess what I want to know is was I tired as it was my 2nd 5K of the day, or was it just the heat when I’m used to running in more like 15C/59F? Will the heat always do this or am I just not fit enough to do two 5K runs in a day...you decide! (Don’t worry I will take it on the chin) Edited by Bob the Trier! 2009-06-30 7:15 AM
