Subject: Dress Rehearsal for Tri tomorrow!
I am doing the Iron Girl in Columbia, MD on August 23rd and tomorrow they are having a dress rehearsal for the race.   My friend and I are going up hoping to feel way more comfortable after experiencing the course and swim.  The race swim is 1100 yds but they are only setting up 800m tomorrow for practice.  I have to admit I am nervous about it, but better to be nervous in a practice race and more comfortable for the real event, right?

Anyways.. any tips for tomorrow?

Also, any other BT'ers going???   If so, are you going to be doing the bike course as well?

Congrats and good luck.  Tonight, practice packing, getting everything out, double checking, making sure you have all your gear.  If your mixing drinks, mix a bottle tonight, and one tomorrow morning and see which one taste better, some stuff on the market has a little different taste after it sits for a long while.

AND.....
Just like race day, NOTHING new!

And most importantly,  HAVE FUN!!!!!!!

I may be there - talking to my friend, but since I don't have a car (and live in DC) I'm kinda stuck on her schedule.

I biked the full course two weeks ago. I am a newbie biker so I biked a portion at a time and went out a little further each time until I could go the whole way. My tri club mentor was a big support for me on the course.

The run - I plan to run/walk since I am sure I will be too tired to fun straight but worst case scenario, walk.

The swim - SCARED TO DEATH. I am so freaked about even the practice swim! I am so worried that I won't be able to go the distance and they will have to put me in one of the boats. I am hoping that I make it thru tomorrow and that will make me feel better about the race.

We're doing all 3.

Thanks everyone!  I did it!!

The swim portion is what I was worried about most and left feeling so much more comfortable about the swim and really realizing I need to get my butt on the bike more!!  Yikes!

The swim for the actual race is 1100yards.. today they were supposed to set it up for just 800, but after the swim we found out that we ended up swimming 1350.. 250 more than the race distance!  Made me feel better to hear that considering my time when I got out of the water!   We ran after the swim (not sure why..that was just the way the practice was set up) and the course was HILLY..but not too bad.  Transitioned to the bike and did the 17.5 miles and WHOA..the hills on that course were not fun!  But I did it! I did the whole thing..well actually more than the whole thing considering the swim was longer!!

RB- how did it go?

Lovey- how did you do?

I finished the swim way past the hour we will have on race day but I did finish. It was exhausting and it made me realized that even though I did it, my form was so bad. I had chest cramps today probably from too much exhertion. My longest pool swim was 700 yards and my longest open water was 400yds. I didn't get past the 400 yards in OW because I would panic. I did the run course but mostly walk/run because I could catch my breath.

I opted for a swim buddy because I thought I may panic like before. They took us in groups of 4 but the other 3 people panic and turned back at the first buoy. I didn't even panic, surprisingly.

I do however feel better about the swim now that I have done it. I know I can go the distance so over the next two weeks, I plan to work on my swim as much as possible.

I will run the course this week and my tri club is doing a BRIC on Saturday.

I finished.  I was about 5th from the last person out of the water (and was in the third or fourth wave in!).  I'm doing an open-water swim clinic next weekend, so hopefully that will help.

I didn't run too much of the run (maybe 1/2) because I exhausted myself on the swim, and I had to drive back to DC and work that day, so I wanted to save some energy.

We did about 1/2 the bike route, but then we drove the entire thing so we could get the feel.

Overall, I'm feeling pretty good.  I know what I need to work on, and now I can visualize the course for the bike/run.  I know I can finish the race, and I know I can do so within the time limits.

I wish we could have met up!  Glad you guys didn't panic in the swim.  I was a bit taken back the first few minutes when we got in the water.. I was in the 30-39 wave and was smack in the middle.. couldn't move for the first few minutes..had to tread water because we couldn't get around anyone.. once I got into a groove..it was smooth sailing!

The bike was really an eye opener for me.  I thought I could blow through it, but found it a bit tougher than I thought and I am used to hills here in Warrenton!  Went out yesterday for a hilly bike and run afterwards and am glad I know what I need to work on!!

Trishie- I will look for you!  I will be in mostly pink.. pink UA hat, hot pink Desoto tri top, black shorts!
