Water Temp Lake Placid

I think it can vary quite a bit from year-to-year.  But I would guess it does not often get much above mid-60s at that time of year and could easily be in the mid-50s.  Don't know if there is anybody there who you could check with for current temps as the date gets closer.

I've got a friend who lives in Saranac Village - just outside of LP - and he isn't doing any outdoor swimming until June. He mentioned something about waiting until ALL the ice was cleared. But he's an admitted 'cold water hater', so his report could be a bit skewed. I'll see if he knows what the temp is though.

Thanks, If it's in the 50's I'll be fine, I swim in the ocean here and it dosent get to 55 until July.

I'm tentatively going up on Saturday May 28th to ride the bike course with a guy from another forum, and possibly rkrueser from this forum. We're looking at a late morning start to the ride, perhaps around 11 AM. Maybe see you up there! I'll toss my wetsuit into the car in case there's a chance we can do a swim after the ride.

Great!! My Full suit arrived yesterday (versus the john I have been wearing) so 55 degrees works! Thanks
The ride sounds good, I would probably hit the lake for one lap then ride, so 11 would be do able.

Sounds good Chris. I'll post details a few days ahead of time as to when we'll be riding etc. That way if anyone is in the area and wishes to do a 56 mile ride, they'd be more than welcome to join in. Because its a holiday weekend, I probably won't be staying overnight in the area, but just driving up for the day.

I am staying out in Wilmington at The KOA campground all weekend, great place if anyone is into camping that is going to Lake Placid. Stayed there last year and it was easy getting to and from the race.

Max, I was planning on bringing my wetsuit to swim the day before the 1/2 martian.  But if that water doesnt warm up a bit in those 2 weeks, I don't think my Texas ass can handle 50^o water. Won't there be icebergs out there? 

LOL...remember, the water on the surface is warmer, so just don't sink!

I look at Icebergs like a seal would, you get tired while swimming just flop up on one and rest Then again I'm from Maine where water in the 50's is considered a hottub
