Subject: RE: Too late to buy a new bike? Thanks for the help. I know I am short on time, but I think it is doable. If I don't think riding my new bike at my race in 2 weeks, I'll use my road bike with clip-ons. I pick up the bike tomorrow. They will do the basic fit at the time. I'll have 3 days to get out and get a feel for it on a variety of terrain. I presently have a pro fit scheduled for Thursday. Unless I am super comfortable, I'll pay the extra $. I got a pro fit on my road bike last year and it was worth it. I had ridden the bike for a decade and fiddled with the fit over the years, but the fitter made some significant changes. It is a Lightspeed so I'll have it for years to come. The other thing I have going for me is that while I am traveling for my race, it is at a place I used to live and rode the roads on the course literally hundreds of times. A TT bike will be a big advantage on this course. In the end I compromised a bit on a number of items but it was just too good a deal. This is what I got for $3500.00 after some haggling: 2009 P2 (Ultegra) Swapped out crank and BB for Ultegra (didn't like the flex of the chain rings on the stock P2) Bontrager Aeolus 5.0 ACC race wheels that were hanging in the shop and on sale (in addition to the stock wheels) 11-25 cluster for the race wheels A pair of Continental 4000, tape and tubes for the race wheels Ultegra pedals If I choose to go with a pro fit it is an extra $200, which seems to be standard here. Any part changes will be at no cost unless they are an upgrade. Edited by E=H2O 2009-08-10 2:15 AM
