Subject: Duathlon Distances

Are there sprint Duathlons, and such like their are triathlons?  and if so what are normal distances for duathlons???

For the shorter distances, I've seen anywhere from 1.5 to 3 miles for the first run.  I've seen from 12-17 miles for cycling.  Usually the last run is a 5K.

All over the board. Biggest sprint duathlon in this area (often the state championship) is 2-18-2.

This year, I did a 2/6.5/2, a 3/16/3, and have a 2/8/2 and a 2/13/5 coming up.  (distances in miles).  There another local du that is 3k/56 miles/HM (with 7000'+ of total climbing)

ITU world series/championship events are 10k/40k/5k.

The ones I've done this year are marketed as Sprint Du's.  The long one is marketed as a Long Course Du

Out here at least they seem to tie the du to the tri.  So, you can do an Olympic and or a Sprint.  The bike/second run is the same as the corresponding tri.  The start run I can't recall at the moment.

Most common distances around here:

Sprint would be 5k/20/2.5k or something close to that. Very common.
Oly: 10k/40k/5k.  Quite a few races at a reasonnable distance from home.
Long distance/half iron : 5-10k/90k/10k. Plan to rent a room.

Don't want to hijack the thread but if any of you know about long distance duathlons in the northeastern US, I am all ears! You can PM me on that.

yeah they did at ohio too before it was cancelled.

vansteelant (sp?) was there along with some other crazy fast guys.
