I've never been to Vancouver and am planning a trip with my family in June - very excited!!

We'll be staying in the west end not far from Nelson Park.  When I look at the map looks as though there are some great run opportunities along Beach Avenue.  Thought I'd check with some locals and see if there are any areas I should be careful of if going for an early morning run...?

Thanks in advance!!

You're in a great spot there. Depending on how far you want to run, you can either head south down Thurlow to you get to the seawall (just past Beach Ave.) and run along the water. If you head east from there (ie. turn left) you will go past Yaletown, BC Place, and Science World. If you continue on you can go past the Olympic Athlete's village, Granville Island and out to Kits Beach, Jericho and Spanish Banks. Turning right (west) at the bottom of Thurlow will take you along a couple of beaches and then to Stanley Park.

If you head north up Thurlow you can reach the seawall at the other side along Coal Harbour with views to the north of North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Lions Gate Bridge, Stanley Park, Grouse Mountain and The Lions. Head west and you'll go through Coal Harbour, past all the nice marinas with a couple nice boats and get to Stanley Park. If you want to do the entire perimeter of Stanley Park it's approx. 10km.

I LOVE running along the seawall and I miss not getting to do it everyday! Hope this helps you out a bit!

Very cool!  Can't wait to check out the place.

Hoping I bring Toronto weather with me - 30 degrees and sunny.  When I look at the weather there it's like 11 and rainy... for days on end.... blah

That's just a few blocks from me, so PM me when you are are in town and maybe we could hook up for a ride or swim. Are you bringing your bike?

Cool!  No bike - family vacation so - bringing them instead   I'll probably be doing the run/swims in the morning/pm then touring during the day - not sure if that works for you but I'll keep in touch.  We arrive June 11th woo hoo!

Yes, keep in touch. I might even have a bike that you can borrow if you feel like going for a ride and have Shimano cleats.

I suspect that is hubby's secret motive!  He's scoping and hoping.

Today is day 3 and I have to say I LOVE this city!!  I've done two runs down by Beach Avenue - SO nice running by the water!  The hill on Thurlow is REALLY fun on the way back doh!  Thanks for the route tips VanCityJ - Tomorrow I'll try another route.

Sending you a PM Jen!
