Subject: Finis Tempo Trainer question
I've been searching all over BT (including the gear and questions section) and the internet to no avail.  Hopefully someone will see this question here and be able to help me.

I have the Finis Tempo Trainer.  I've used it twice in the short-interval-with-single-beep mode with no problems. The last time I went to use it, it was in the longer interval mode.  It's currently in the mode where you can set it to 10 sec to 10 min intervals with a 3 beep sound.  My guess is that it ended up in this mode after being smooshed in my suitcase over the holidays.

My question is this: how do you get it back into the mode where you can do one beep on less than 10 sec intervals?

I have downloaded everything I can find from Finis and the only instructions I have located show how to get it into the longer interval mode.  There is nothing about how to get it back into the shorter interval mode and from what I can tell, reversing the directions to go into the longer interval mode doesn't work.

Help me please...I want to use my tempo trainer again!

Thanks.

Maybe I have an older version, but I didn't even know it had more than one mode!   I use it all the time, almost every swim and absolutely love it.   It has really improved my stroke cadence.  When I 1st used it a few years ago my average cadence over 400 yards was around 105, not I have it down to low 90's.  Sorry I have no answer for you though.   Good luck.   Did you see if they have a customer service phone # on their web-site?

I just pushed the left button and held it down.  About in the middle, it displays 0:10.  If you press the left button once from here it displays 9:99 (i think this is for beep every 9.99 seconds.  Then from here, holding down the left button continuously, it goes all the way to display 0:20 and it's beeping "constantly".

So, hold down the left button until your finger hurts.

Thanks, I'll try it.  I think something might not be right about my left button, so that might explain why it's never worked for me but I'll give it a shot again tonight.

And thanks to cardenas for the idea of calling Finis. I don't know why that didn't occur to me!  Duh!

Hi there,

First let me explain that "Mode 1" on the Tempo Trainer is the short-interval, single-beep mode which ranges from to 9:99 - 0:20 (9 seconds, 99 one-hundredths to 0 seconds, 20 one-hundredths). This mode is primarily for stroke tempo.

"Mode 2" is the longer-interval, triple-beep mode which ranges from 0:10 - 9:59 (10 seconds to 9 minutes, 59 seconds). This mode is primarily for pacing.

Bartimaeus (Mike) is correct. If you hold down the left "DOWN" button, the time will tick down until you get to 0:10, which is 10 seconds. Keep holding the left button down and it will tick down into the "Mode 1" range. Oppositely, press and hold down the right "UP" button to scroll back into the longer interval "Mode 2" range.

If you are in "Mode 1" the colon in the middle of the display will stay constant. While if you are in "Mode 2" the colon in the middle will flash once a second.

Hope that helps!

Awesome, it worked!  I had to play around with the left button a few times to get it to start scrolling down but once it did, it went all the way down and then back into Mode 1.

Thanks to all (and FINIS)!

Can you use this while runiing to keep the legs at a high stride rate? Or just while swimming?

I would think it would work fine for running or cycling.  It might get a tad annoying after awhile because it's sort of loud and has no volume control, but I don't see why not.

There is nothing about it that makes it swimming specific outside of being waterproof.  Of course, that might be handy for the other sports as well depending on weather conditions and individual sweat rates.

You can use it running.  Bike cadence.  Shoot, you could use it as a piano metronome.

Impressive that their tech team chimed in!    Great service and another reason I love the product.   Heck, before this thread I didn't even know there were 2 modes.    Thanks.

Your question is so weird. I used Finis TT previously, and it can change mode when power on each time. So maybe your Finis TT was defective a little.
But I used COUNTU Tempo as my sports metronome. It's easy to change 3 kinds tempo modes anytime, smaller and more functions.

I think the Tempo Trainer Pro has 3 modes. The top button changes modes. It'll also say what mode it's in when it turns on. 1, 2 or 3. I did a video on the Tempo Trainer just a few weeks ago:
