Subject: RE: 2 bikers killed, driver under influenceThat is a terribly sad story. Unfortunately, we hear of this too often. I work with guys who say bikes have no business being on the roadway. I work for a company redoing the roads around a lake at a National Recreation Area so there are cyclists (dozens) riding through the park daily. I try to explain to him the rights of a cyclist, but of course all I get are BS remarks. I hope something is done to prevent these types of accidents in the future. Reflectors and safety devices are obviously not going to greatly reduce the numbers. Perhaps a microchip embedded in the auto's circuitry and a chip on all bikes produced, so whenever an auto is coming upon a cyclist, the driver is made aware with a noise, or a dash signal or something. With all the technology out there, it seems that there should be something that can be done. Our prayers go out to those families affected by the accident. |
