Does anyone in the Madison area have any recommendations--positive or negative--for folks who remove trees? i think it's time i look into having a particular tree removed.

Phil, this will require more than a shovel.

Good idea on the pre-emptive statements (though I'm sure Phil will have something SA to say...)

Naw.  I saw the tree.  Definitely NOT a single-handed hand shovel job.

I know a guy who puts IN trees, but I don't know if he removes them.  You want me to check?  He's in the Marshall area.

My next door neighbor works for a lawn care company... Of course, I can't remember the name of it. But, I can ask him.

Deanna - is the lawn-care person a "Certified Arborist"?

I don't think my neighbor is a certified arborist - but that doesn't mean the company doesn't have one.... I don't know though.

Well, here's a question.... if i am having the tree removed, down to the stump, do i really need a certified arborist, or do i just need some guy with insurance and the right equipment?

Good question, so I would shoot that out to someone who is more qualified to answer it.

You just need a guy with a chainsaw and insurance.

You may have to hire a different person to grind the stump if thats what you want.

Make sure they finish cleanup BEFORE you pay them. No promises of "we'll finish it tomorrow" or anything like that.

I've cut down a few trees, and have paid to have a few cut down (too big for me).

This is probably going to end up being a hire-the-pros task given the size of the tree and the fact that about a third of the tree looms over the power line that supplies my house. And my driveway. And my neighbors' driveway. Good times...
