A proclamation: I don't care if I have to backstroke, doggy paddle, or just float with the current throughout, I am going to kick the swim's a$$ in my sprint next month.  I realize that floating and a$$ kicking seem at odds with each other, but I'm counting a finish as a major personal win!

If it’s a wave start or time trial start watch the waves ahead of you. I went to my first tri with only having swum the 450 meters once before the swim. But just watching everyone else freak out about made me more comfortable Also watch the so called faster swimmers (who looked like they could drowned at any minute) made me realize if they could do it I could do it

remember you are doing this for fun

Yes you will!  I just completed a swim where the water temp was 58, I did every stroke known to man to get it done, and I did.  If I can do it you can too!!  Kick !

My first tri I had only been swimming for 1 months and backstroked almost the entire 1/2 mile and was about 4th to last out of the water. And I had a blast!!

Keep in mind that the slower you are on the swim, the more likely you are to pass people on the bike and the run!

HAVE FUN!

I learned to swim 6 weeks before my first tri and I'm not sure what stroke I was doing, but I got there.  Best advice I got was to start off about half the speed you think you should be doing; it may feel slow but you'll make it to the end.  Look forward to reading all about it
