Are you trying to loose weight?

Then you need to create a deficit so it will be OK to not consume 2500 calories...

Not necessarily.  If you're 300 pounds and working out, you could be starving yourself at 2500 calories.  If you're Michael Phelps, you'd be starving yourself.  Until you/we know stats you CAN NOT MAKE THAT JUDGMENT.

Have you figured out your BMI?  How old?  Weight?  Height?  Male/Female? What is your activity level?  What are your weight loss goals?

I would say it's safe to assume you want to lose weight being this is in the weightloss forum.

Thats completely true. I just thought that neither a 300lbs person nor Michael Phelps would have any problems consuming 2500 calories a day so I kind of assumed that the person was rather on the lighter side because I for sure have to fight some days to keep my calories below that and would have no problem eating more....

Of course I could be totally wrong so I agree we need some more stats.

Eat smaller size for 6-8 meals a day, that way you can reap up to your target without having overloaded by a single meal. Check out the "team ripped" thread, they have plenty advices on this.

If you eat clean 2500 calories is a lot.

I was real close to 300 pounds a couple months ago, lost 25 or so now.  I was eating chicken breast, brown rice, vegies, and yogurt smoothies.  I was eating ALL DAY LONG to hit 2500.

Some calculators said I should be eating 4,000+ calories a day to maintain.  Thats a lot of food, no matter what you eat!!!

What's scary is how some fast food and frozen food can have over 1,000 calories in one meal!!!

I understand.  I eat around 1800 calories a day and sometimes have a hard time reaching that amount.  Most of calories come from whole natural foods like vegitables, berries, eggs and lean meat.  However, I try to include calorie dense foods like almonds and cheese to up my levels.  Typically have an ounce of one, the other or both for a snack around 3 each day.

If you throw in a piece of Salmon or use Extra Virgin Olive oil on your food you can add a nice bit of calories to your day.  You also get that great heart healthy fat your body needs.

A little cheese to your diet will give you a calorie boost too.

1/4 cup of nuts every day will add a nice bit of calories too.  Nuts have a number of health benefits too.

Avocado's are another nice additive to help get you up in calories.

Peanut butter also works in a pinch if you're trying to hit a target. Plus cooking anything you pan fry with more healthy oils... salad dressings etc.

BTW really not the point of this post... but 2500 isn't starving at 300 lbs for some of us. I was maintaining at 300 and about 2500 give or take any more and I'd gain. Overweight people don't eat as much as people sometimes assume. Yes, you have to over-eat to GET there but to stay there it's way too damn easy.

To put this in perspective. I weigh in at, give or take, 200 lbs. I am very active.

I think my problem is that I tend start eating late in the day and I try to cram all my calories into a short period.

Start eating every 3 hours and after a while your body will start craving food more regularly than before....

I used to do the big mistake of hardly eating anything during the day and then having a huge dinner. Since I started eating more during the day (especially for breakfast) the scale is finally moving !!

for what it is worth, i just started counting calories, i find it very easy to comsume 2800 calories in a day. I avoid fast food and processed foods and eat a lot of fruit and veggies. Have larger breakfast 6-800 calories, and eat every two hours.

ex

breakkie: 2 eggs and wheat toast with a touch of butter, bannana and glass of 2% milk  8am

snack:  peach or bannana  10am

lunch: salad with grilled chix or hamburger with pickle 1 slice of cheese no bread tuna from water light mayo on wheat bread type lunch,  12 noon

snack:   pretzels or nuts  12 noon

snack:   apple or orange 2pm

snack: item varies usually carrots or fruit  4pm

dinner:  grilled chix, broiled pork or steak, veggie on the side, sometimes potato  6pm

snack:  cherries, or some pretzels or other fruit  8pm

i find it hard to not go over 3000 calories.

I also weigh 230 and workout 6-10 hours a week, and according to Livestrong, this should net me a 2lb loss a week, my goal is 215 by October 4th.  I find myself hungry all day long, and have no problem consuming the food.  I guess we are all different.  with no diet and just excercise, i am down from 262 a year ago. These last 15-20lbs are the hardest so far.

Good luck!!!
