eventhough i think i would like rollers more, i think i am going to choose a trainer for my winter needs.

eventhough this is florida and i can train alot outside, unfortunately it gets dark and i don't want to give drivers an additional reason to hit me....Laughing

any suggestions on a cheaper trainer?  something that would just let me get milage in?  is it even possible to get something half decent in the $100-150 price range?  thanks.

If you watch for this one, REI has sales occasionally where you can pick it up for about $150 or so.

If you've never used a trainer before I would suggest trying a wind trainer before buying one. I borrowed a wind trainer for a few months and I will NEVER buy one because they are extremely loud.

I have this one. I havent used any others but so far I think that it has been a great value. It isn't too loud and rolls smooth.

Travel Trak Century V fluid trainer at Performance.  I have had this one for over two years, and it is in your price range.  Great value.

This...

My dad had one that we'd use sometimes growing up it was soooo loud.

Also when i worked at the bike shop in HS you could tell from the other end of the basement at the other end of the store when someone hopped on one of the wind ones on display.

I say if you are going to use it outside or in a garage maybe and noise is not a concern save the money and go for one, if you want to use it inside while watching tv or something or live in a condo or apt.. skip.

I have a nashbar magnetic (aka minoura) and it has been going strong for years and years. Quiet, cheap, reliable. I also have a fluid trainer (nashbar), as well. Nothing wrong with it, I just prefer my mag.

its beginning to get little darker int he morning, before i could get up 6:30 ride in the day time for 1 hr and make it into the office by 8:30 no problem.  i still have another month i can do this, after that i need to ride and have this as a backup.

in case i can't do the workout in the morning due to rain or what not.  i will still get on this for 30-45 min to get the legs moving.

i have a 2 story house, the bedrooms are at the top and i want to put the trainer / rollers in a room upstairs so i can train there when it gets too dark, which i will have to do.

i don't care if i have a tv or not but it would be nice.  regardless rollers you can't really watch a tv unless you are quite good, i am not .  this is more of volume training then anything else.
