I'm doing the Sprint - since KC Tri was a no go, this will be my first Tri :-). Found this video last night from the race two years ago. The course is completely different but it gives you a nice idea of what the surroundings will be - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnS4MfJKVgc

Are you traveling with your family? Did you decide to stay in Warrenton or Wentzville?

Yep traveling with family. Headed to my parents house in Eureka, MO Thursday night. Friday night my wife and I will head to packet pick-up then we are staying in Warrenton at the Holiday Inn Express. My parents are going to bring our kids out to the race Saturday morning.

If you are looking at trying to do something with your kids on Saturday you might want to look into the City Museum - http://www.citymuseum.org/site/

Cool. We may check that out. We're going to site see on Saturday and stay in STL on Sat night. I know we're going to the butterfly garden, and a few other things.

I'll be there. This'll be my first of the season too since the KC Tri was a bust. It's been 10 months since my last tri so you can imagine how training 7 days a week for that long of time without a race can make you go a little bonkers. Should be a good weekend, just getting ready to start studying my course maps today and get all my mental prep done with.

I have not yet reviewed the course maps, but I understand that the run course if very hilly on packed dirt/gravel.

I was watching the video posted at the top of the thread here and yeah it looks like chat/gravel kind of surface. Love to hate it. It's softer on the joints which is nice to some degree, but it's almost like running on a thin sheet of snow, blech.

Looks like a nice 2 mile downhill on the bike course followed by regaining all that elevation in about a mile. Should be a good place to break some people mentally if you can climb well.

Hey Ranski I sent you a message.

That video of the course is great. I know the maps have changed, but it looks beautiful. I can't wait. I'm nursing a few minor injuries so I'm praying for a solid race.

Thanks for the heads up, I wouldn't have seen it as I hadn't set my preferences to email when I get a message. Sent you a reply.

How about that run course? Seriously though I think the bike probably kicked my butt more so than anything. I felt like I was always into the wind.

How'd you guys fair?

For my first ever Tri I'm not sure how it could get any better - morning temps in the 60"s, flat 84 degree water and FRESHLY paved roads!

I have to agree, while I knew the course would be hilly, the run course was a challenge. SInce I did the Sprint I was off the bike before the real wind kicked up.

I'm driving back from an awesome weekend in STL so I'll write more later... But...

Congrats Funk you killed it out there! victory has to taste especially good after a long winter!

Congrats randy on your first tri!

I'll do a race report early this week and look forward to reading others too. I think I'll be back to Innsbrook next year.

After you have established the Ironman goal, the most important factor outside of the training is which race to choose? What is your best sort of course, hilly, rolling, flat?
