COURT JESTER ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Renee you are an INFLUENCE. Think we need to good vibration kind of posts here. Doesn't have to be anything of Superhero proportions, just something you did were you had a chance to really help someone. For starters, was just walking the dog and a woman stops and asks for directions. Street name is unfamiliar, so I offer to head home and jump online for directions. That caught her off gaurd. Anyway, got her on her way, it was in the subdivision across the road. Lesson to take: Pay attention to the street names I run on in that subdivision as I run through it all the time.
I'm petitioning to get this thread "stickied" to the top to keep the good vibes going. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The other week my family went out for a walk. just as we got outside, we heard a young boy shouting for help "someone please help me". he had fallen off his bike and was rolling around in the middle of the street. he was not wearing a helmet. His head was bleeding along with elbows and knees. My husband ran to him, I ran for ice/towels and we got him carried home. Ended up the young boy needed stitches in his head. Lessons learned for my kids, wear your helmet! They were troubled with the sight of blood in the middle of the street. Despite the parents not even thanking us for helping their child, we came to a child's aid and my children learned you need to help your neighbor when they are in need. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() About a month ago, we had an unexpected visitor come in through our front door, and she was met by our very loud (but very harmless) German Shepherd doorbell dog. We brought her in, she was hysterical, and after about 5 minutes she was able to calm enough to tell me to call 911, who she was, and that her husband had thrown her to the floor. We called the police and went from there. She's okay now. Her husband was arrested, no choice due to state law. After getting bailed out, and sitting through a 72-hour no-contact order, he came back and resolved to get his act together - they're planning on going to counselling. The scary thing is that we weren't the first house she ran to. |

Did I just say that? Oh man. My middle son gave blood for the bery first time the day he turned 16. When the ldies asked him why he chose to do it that day he said because it was the first day he could and that hehas watched his dad (McFuzz) do it for so many years that it is just the right thing to do now. BTW, he is set to donate pherisis nest month for the first time as well. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I like to look at the BT Blogger and find someone who is training and blogging and has goals and stuff ... and no one inspires them ... and then I inspire them. They may hate it, but it makes me feel better ... and really, isn't that what it's all about? (need some help with the sarcasm font for the last bit) Edited by 1 Foot The Other 2006-09-09 6:28 PM |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I also like to do random inspires and look for people who have never had one. Last month, we found two dogs running down a busy road after a storm. We tried to find their owners that night, after no luck, took them to the 24-hr emergency vet (we could not take them home) and then next day, while putting up flyers, we found the owner and the dogs were reunited with their family. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I feed the neighborhood stray cat. We call him Tomcat. I bought the neighbors dog a water dish that cannot be tipped over and told the kid who was watching the dog that it was a dish I had from a dog I used to have. I ignored company policy and advanced a new mom 2 extra weeks of vacation (we give maturnity leave after one year of employment, she was at 10 months) so she would not lose her health insurance while getting the day care situated and the older kids back in school. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() At Danskin this year, the parking was an absolute mess. Due to that and other circumstances, my friends and I were some of the last few people back to the remote parking. Once there, saw a woman who had obviously done the race who was sitting there looking like she had been waiting awhile for someone. It was hot, and there were not many other people who would be coming back that way, so I stopped. She was waiting on her boyfriend, but thought that he might not know where he was supposed to be ... I let her use my cell phone, but she wasn't able to get in touch with anyone. So, strapped her bike to my truck and started driving around, looking for him. Finally ended up finding him at the "rendevous spot" where he had been circling for quite awhile looking for her. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() As someone who works as the Recruitment Manager at my local blood bank I can't tell you enough how what you are doing is SO IMPORTANT. My blood bank services three counties and we contract with all the hosptials in it. Every morning we have a "production" meeting where we go over what blood and aphresis procedures we had in the day before (and what we now have in stock) and then what the hospitals had called us for the previous day and take a status of what we need to bring in that day to meet those needs. When I say that our jobs can turn on a dime and it is literally a donor by donor job, I'm not kidding. Based on whatever accidents happened the night before, how many cancer patients need platelets, how many heart surgeries the hospitals have scheduled, among many other stories, *THAT* determines what we do that day. (I'm new to this job and am *really* on fire so bear with me) But it's FASCINATING. When you donate blood, you are literally saving a life. A trauma patient can take 30+ pints of blood ALONE until they can stabilize him. The platelets help cancer patients, we need blood on hands for surgeries. Your blood bank is THE lifeline and support system for your community and hospitals. I've never been in a job before where what I do (recruit donors and come up with programs to draw them in) has such an immediate impact on the community and my friends, relatives and neighbors. Hospitals count on us to give them this precious resource and that comes from YOU. One hour every eight weeks, that's all we ask. And it is going to good use and will help someone out in a critical situation. Aphresis is different but similar. Research it if you're interested, but it's collecting platelets and plasma and sometimes red blood cells. It's important as well and the donor base we have where I work is dedicated and some of the best people you will ever meet. If you're looking for a way to volunteer in your community, but like most of us, are so busy. I enoucrage you to look into donating at your local blood bank. It is always needed and what you are doing saves lives ps. and yes, with parental and doctor consent 16 year olds can give blood. Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ps. sorry about the thread hijack. My good deed.....on frequent occasions when I'm crossing a bridge in the Bay Area I pay for the person behind me even though I don't know them. It's dorky and stupid but someone did that to me years ago and it turns out I was having a shi**y day and when the toll taker told me I waas completely blown away and ended up with a restored faith in humanity. So, now whenever I have a couple extra bucks I do the same.... |
