Egypt?

I spend about four months there a year for work. For years I would take a group of students and therefore, had to do some of the touriesty stuff. My suggestion...get a tour company. Do not try to navigate Egypt without help. You'll end up lost, broke, or both. Plenty of cool stuff to see and do and amazing people to meet.

Thanks for the input. I have this open in PCOJ too. I've mentioned there, that we're leaning to a tour operator. Have you encountered the Trafalgar tours over there? My wife has found one of their tours that fits into our travel time.

If I might, what are you doing in Egypt? Sounds like an interesting posting with plenty flexibility. Growing up in a foreign country, I'm aware of the challenges it presents. However, we lived there full time. Knowing your stay would be limited to 4 months at a time, would make being away from the States much easier IMO. We only had a month stateside each year and remember counting off the days until we could get back and enjoy the food, family and other comforts of the USA!

I have never used that tour company. I use gateway to Egypt tours (info below). These guys will custom build you a tour to show you what you want to see and take care of all of the details. They are fantastic.

I work as a bioarchaeologist (study ancient skeletons) at the New Kingdom site I’d Tell el-Amarna (location of Akhenaten and Nefertiti’s capital and King Tut’s likely birthplace). It is a pretty cool job.

Yeah, it sounds like you do have a great job. I imagine your behind the scenes access to the sites, artifacts and remains makes every day at work seem like play. You have a blog or website? I'd be interested in checking it out if you do. Thanks again for the input!

Yeah! Our site maintains a website (www. amarnaproject. Com) and has a Facebook page that is a little more active and spans more of Egyptology than just our site/timeframe.

Good stuff. Love the photos and accompanying descriptions of the work in progress on the FB page. Amarnaproject. com was pretty good, but it's clearly geared more towards the those in working within the archaeological community than the average Joe such as myself. Good info on both sites, thanks.

I visited Egypt earlier this year for orienteering competition, and don't want to visit there again. However, world scout conference in 2020 will be held in Egypt.

I have been there. It's very hot. Make sure to bring with you sunglasses and cup and comfy clothes.

Egypt is very touristic and has all you need in all-inclusive hotels. But you should check the weather because it is often windy there
