Subject: Garmin 305 Gone Belly up?

Ya know, I've had nary a problem with this thing and now all of a sudden, it's just DEAD.  Has anyone else had this happen?

I  charged it before I went out of town and never had a  chance to use it.

Yesterday I fired it up to "Low Battery" and then it died.

Now I just charged it and it said "Battery fully charged and I disengaged it from the unit and am unable to turn it on.

Any ideas?

And of course I have a "fitness assessment run" tomorrow a.m.  Oy

There is a way to reset it- I think you hit 'mode' and 'enter' at the same time, then press lap (reset) while still holding down the other 2 buttons. If that doesn't work, look it up on the internet. You have to hold the buttons for a while to make it reset. Oh, and Garmin's customer service totally rocks, so you can always call them!

OMG thank you, I was featuring a convoluted run to the store, etc.  I went to garmin.com and did what you mentioned, although you have to be "plugged in" and it worked fabulously!

Technology!

Btw, how's ann arbor treating you?

got a question about my 305 too.   finished an Oly on Sunday and used the 305 and everything went perfect.

i turn it on last night to ride my trainer and for some reason the cadence isn't working at all.   i look down and see nothing has been moved or shifted....so all the parts are still aligned correctly.   however, it still won't register my cadence or speed.

is there something that might have happened or is there a way to reset the cadence system all together?

Either something is not lined up or your battery is dead is my guess.  Mine has not been working either but I have not checked the battery.

battery shouldn't be dead since i've only had it a couple months.    i looked at the alignment and everything looks great....nothing out of place.

anyone else got any ideas?

My cadence battery died a lot sooner than I expected it to- within a few months. Before replacing it, though, go through the process of having your garmin 'find' it again. I can't remember the procedure, but it's on their website. Hopefully that will solve your problem, assuming you really do have everything lined up correctly. Just remember the alignment is very sensitive.

My cadence sensor started "eating" batteries after about a year.  Battery would work for 1 ride, next time out it would be dead.   New battery, rescan, everything worked fine....for 1 ride.  If I remembered to remove the battery after a ride, insert, rescan, things were ok but I didn't always remember to remove the battery plus it was a pain the . I called Garmin and they sent me new cadence sensor.  As mentioned their support is excellent!

If it does start eating them, just call garmin and be super nice. They will send you free things. I once complained that my HR monitor strap was made for someone with a GIANT chest, and not for small women, so they sent me a spare stretchy part so that I could practice sewing mine to fit better. How cool was that! I got rewarded for complaining
