However, the cost of new shoes is minimal compared to the cost of getting injured. Apparently you're comfortable taking that risk though.

It's worth mentioning that wearing new shoes on race day can also cause some minor injuries. If the Nikes can hold up I'd worry about getting new shoes after your race.

Maybe SOME new shoes, but MOST can be worn straight out of the box with no break-in needed. I've worn new shoes in races with no issues at all, and I've worn new shoes for 20 mile runs with no problems.

This is really more of a myth that may have had some truth to to it 30-40 years ago, but will not go away.

I understand good shoes prevent injury, but i also see people wearing those "bare foot shoes" witht the toes on them and wonder if running the way nature intended is the way to go.  kind of like using wrist straps and gloves when lifting, it reduces grip strength in the long run.

You're lucky. No myth for me though, I've never had such luck with new shoes. I always get killer blisters on my feet or the occasional shin splint if I run in new shoes for an extended period of time.

invest in some shoes....you will be glad you did....you are just asking for trouble.

Every running store around here strongly advises NOT to run an event in brand new shoes.  Most rec 20-30mi break-in.  And there is always the chance that an odd stitch or two will irritate your foot.  I usu have no problem with new shoes, not always.

To OP- Shoe Goo is great stuff.  I always try to keep some on hand.

6 months and they are falling apart already?  Have you considered going back to the store and seeing what they can do for you?  I don't care how many miles you have on them, they should not fall apart after 6 months.  They could be one of those rare stores with awesome customer service.  Or maybe they can give you a big enough discount on new shoes that will make them affordable?

Really? In the first 6 months this year I ran over 1500 miles. Are you saying a single pair of shoes should have done OK?

Shoe Goop, or one of its siblings (there a few types of  Goop..) should do the job. If you have already tried silicon, make sure that you scrape/sand any silicon off (if any of it stuck at all), as it could prevent adhesion.
I use packing tape to hold it together until the Goop has set.

Nice, your throwing down some serious mileage.  Yes, I am saying the soles of the shoes should be ok.  Not sure the cusioning would be so hot in them though.
