Hydration offered at aid stations

Extreme Veteran  744    Ontario |  Subject: Hydration offered at aid stationsI'm signed up for IM FL this year and looking at doing the half at Cedar Point or Muskoka as a warm up. I see that IM FL has switched from using Gatorade Endurance to Ironman Perform at their aid stations, and that Cedar Point is using Cera Sport. I assume that Muskoka is still using regular Gatorade. What a mess, I wish everyone could use the same hydration. Does anyone know if Ironman Perform and/or Cera Sport are available in Canada. The last time that I did IM FL Gatorade Endurance was not approved for use in Canada so it was almost impossible to buy any. I have a history of gastric problems in races when certain drinks are used so I want to make sure that I train with what will be at the races, and if I can't tolerate the product then I need to start planning to carry my own. I would try and mail order some from the US, but apparently Customs has been turning nutrition related products back at the border and so some of the mail order companies have stopped trying to ship nutrition products to Canada. I had the same issue when the IMs in the US were using Gatorade Endurance Formula and it had not been approved for use in Canada. |

I think the odd after-taste is going to be a problem after several hours. Now I need to find out what flavor(s) they are using on the course. I re-checked the Rev3 website and it looks like they have changed from Sera Sport to original Gatorade. Also interesting that IMC says they will be using Perform even though it is not approved for use in Canada. They said they would use Gatorade Endurance the first year it was used for IMs in the US, and then changed their minds late when it still was not approved, so I'm guessing they might change their minds again. I really wish it was not so complicated trying to train with what is going to be used on course. |

I basically carried my own nutrition for the day and supplemented with water and coke (and chicken broth - which at first was good but later made me feel ill) |

I'm hoping that I don't need to resort to carrying my own nutrition, but that is an option if I find that I have issues with Perform. Coke and chicken broth were life savers when I did FL in 2008. |
