BRX...when you say you did that at the "Y" I'm assuming pool, stationary bike and treadmill?
I was thinking of doing the same thing (i belong to a Y with all three) and figured it would be a good starting point to get a rough time and see how many times I collapse during the event so I can plan for first aid workers to be handy on race day...haha

How often do you all do it? every couple weeks? More for benchmarking or building endurance or both?

Yes, I do this at our local YMCA. I have been doing all of my training there this winter. I am not sure what the temperature is in Santa Rosa, but today in Dover, Ohio the high was 18. This is the second time I have done the "sprint". I am using it to gauge my progress. Right now my plan is to do this once every four weeks until the beginning of May and and then I'll be starting a peak phase for my first race which is in June. Starting next month I will be adding 25% more distance to each segment until I am doing "olympic" distances. I don't mind the indoor training, but I can't wait to get outside and see what my times are like then.

BRX,
Thanks for the info. As I've mentioined in other posts, right now Santa Rosa (70 min. due north of San Francisco) is going thru a "cold snap" it's been about 55 degrees all week .... h, yeah, I know. But I find it amusing that us west coasters FREAK OUT when it gets this cold)

I'm a single mom so getting out on the road and bike aren't always an option. With the Y's daycare, tho, I'm able to take him with me and put in a couple good hours and still test myself with the "sprint" distance b4 the event in April. I'm going to follow your lead and do the same.

Thanks for the info! and best of luck to you!

BRX, way to go. That's quite a jump. Are these sprint tris things you do alone, or are you with a group? If alone, that's a huge amount of motivation to keep up a sprint for over an hour! Good job.

Glad you asked Dana.  I didn't have a clue either.  Just didn't think to ask too.

Sharon,
Right now I do these sprint tris alone, but I am hoping to get some more people involved once the weather gets nice around here. I don't mind training alone though. I enjoy the solitude and it helps me focus.
