Has anyone ever had to replace their helmet straps for their Giro Advantage 2? Or any helmet for that matter? I called Giro and they said that they do not offer just the straps. That seems a little odd to me. Anyone have any advice. Thanks.

Why do you need to replace the straps?

Well, I found a helmet for pretty cheap but for some reason, the guy cut the straps. I don't knwo what races he was in, but he wanted them cut. That is why it was so cheap.

If you have an old helmet that you've replaced (maybe a crashed helmet?), then you might be able to thread the strap from that helmet into the GA2... But it'd be difficult at best. Make sure that the straps duplicate the original threading/configuration, or it could be DQ'd as a "modification" under USAT rules.

I can't imagine WHY anyone would cut the straps...

As of right now I onlyhave one other helmet, which is my everyday helmet. I have thought about just switching the straps come race day. As far as the starp routing goes, it looks like any Giro straps would work. All of the strap guides and all of that are still there in the helmet. just no straps, chin buckle, or strap stops for the front of the helmet. Yea, I have no idea why he cut the straps. That's just odd.

So I guess my next question would be if anyone has an old crashed Giro helmet with straps?

I've got the strap from an OLD Giro Lemond that I used as a number belt a few times... I could send that to you... PM me an address. You'd have to figure out how to get it threaded into the helmet though. No warranties implied or expressed.

I think the only problem would be that I don't have those plastic stops to keep the straps from coming through the helmet from the inside. From what I have seen. The straps are stitched around those to prevent them from coming loose. I doubt you kept those on for your race belt. If so, I am willing to try anything. I'll send you a pm. Thanks.

I just crashed an Atmos, so if you want grey and I can figure out how to remove, they're yours if Brider's don't work out.

I hate to be a naysayer, but having crashed at over 20 mph and cracked my helmet on the pavement, I would never ride with a jury-rigged used helmet.

Just my $0.02.

i don't think they will work without having those peices that hold the straps on the front of the advantage 2. How are the straps on the atmos attached to the helmet? Thanks.

The helmet that I have is in mint condition. The only problem is that it's missing straps. So if I can get straps that attach the same as the originals, then it really can't be considered rigged. Maybe if I was using tape instead of a buckle. But as stated before that is illegal under USAT rules. Thanks for the advice though. It is still a valid point.

Just checked, they're molded into the sytrofoam of the helmet. I think the shell is cast around the ends. I'd basically have to cut them out and you'd be left with a naked end. If that works, they're yours. Also, I need to keep this helmet until insurance settles up as I'm claimibg the helmet as damages from the accident. After that and if you can use this, they're yours.

Not really the point and doesn't solve your problem I know but why would anyone cut the straps off of a good helmet? A helmet without straps is no longer a helmet. In the motorcycle world, a helmet with a cut strap = stolen helmet. Moto helmets have d rings though...

I don't know...

Well, I talked with my LBS and they said that what sometimes happens is a shop will get a demo from a sales rep. Then when the new year comes around and the manufacturer changes color schemes or soemthing like that, the sales rep will tell the shop to cut the straps or "damage" the helmet and toss it in the trash. SO he said that was probably the case with this helmet. The shop disposed of the helmet, and someone who works at the shop took it out of the trash and sold it. That is why manufacturers do not sell replacement straps. This seems silly to me, because what if something really does happen to your straps and nothing is wrong with the helmet? You're just out $100 or so and have to get a new helmet.
