Subject: spin bike vs indoor training?

i want to trng on my cycling more... riding once per wk ( if that) is no way to get better.  i was wondering if i should get a indoor trainer or use buy a spin cycle (& put on components for cycling ie. seat, clip in pedles.....)   i like the idea of a spin cycle because its a fixed indoor object.  i don't have to mount my bike on and off.  but i like a trainer because if i need to i can take it with me.  regardless which is a better training tool to improve my cycling?

I love my trainer. I have never used a spin bike so I cannot compare but my cycle-ops 2 fluid trainer is mobile and gives an amazing workout. Also, I just leave my bike on the trainer now that the weather keeps me riding inside. Just my two cents!

Trainer, if you're on a tri-bike. The more time you can log on the equipment you'll actually use in a race, the better off you'll be...you'll be very used to the bike and know your position on that bike. As hard as I've tried, I still can't get a decent TT position on a spin bike. Close, but 1) it's not the same, and 2) the crank lengths (for instance, on a Lemond RevMaster) are different.

If you're on a a road bike, you can do trainer OR rollers. Some of the new rollers are phenomenal (inside ride, for instance), and give a roadlike feel.  A bit more than a trainer, but amazing in how they will help your cycling.

 I like the indoor trainers the best for the reasons mentioned, in addition I like to raise the front wheel sometimes for a hill simulation workout that you cant do with a spinbike/rollers ( by putting books under the front wheel ) Get a fluid trainer though, its well worth the extra $$$.

I like using mine with a trainer also.  I just ordered a couple of spinerval DVD's to try them out otherwise I just watch TV or a movie.  Though with living in a motel room right now it is a little cramped but it works out better than the Tae-bo did! Surprised

I have a CycloTron Mag.  It is ever cooler because I got it for free!  A friend decided that she didnt want to do cycling anymore and asked if I wanted it.  Was very hard to not jump around like an idiot.  : )
I have a box for the front wheel that has different track heights and those angles make alot of difference. 
It is easy to move around and set up and take down.

I love the fluid trainer. I have not used a mag or wind trainer, though. I know that the wind trainers used to be so very noisy when a friend of mine used his. You cannot go wrong with the fluid trainers but they cost a bit more.

The cheapest I have ever seen the cycleops fluid trainers are from www.ageebike.com. Best prices by far. And no, I do not own stock or work for them in anyway!

any tried  1 up trainer?  1upusa.com  its a Centrifugal Pressure Resistance.

alright alright, im just gonna through it out there.. trainers is aight, but i really prefer rollers.

There tricky at first, but after a little practice (one week) Its no prob.

I dunno if youve sat on a trainer before but basically what happens is you look at your clock constantly and time goes slow. Its so boring. Rollers give you just that slightly exciting feel and a little room to move around. Definately replicating the act of cycling a bit more.

Nothing is as good as real road riding though, and if your not down with the cold and wind of the harsh winter road, try some mountain biking. just sayin, the wind and cold arent nearly as cold and windy on the single track.

I recently bought a 1yo Kurt Kinetics road fluid trainer off of Craigslist for 50% retail plus it came with the front wheel riser ring, the KK power meter and one Spinerval DVD, locally I'm in a pretty small market area.

Interestingly on the KK trainer my HR/RPE is higher for a slower speed.  I don't care as in the 2-3 weeks of using it to supplement my 1/2 Mary run training I've gotten stronger and the speed is slowly increasing.  I like this because if I can get my trainer training avg speed up to my typical road avg speeds then I'll be even faster on the road when all said and done.

okay... i finally ended up getting a Cyclops fluid 2...i did pay full retail $325 minus $10  coupon but i got it a Disk sporting good store... where if you spend $300 plus, they give you a $150 gift card...  

yes totally happy... great resistances with complete silence.   my bike makes more noise than the trainer... and now i'm training with a few dvd's ... awesome workouts.

I actually got a CycleOps Pro 300PT to train with power this winter. I do jump on a trainer once a week or so, but sometimes find myself slacking a little.
