Does anyone have a plan swimming in Gulliver's Lake (Hwy 6 / Safari Rd) this weekend?

I have never been there and wondering where the swim spot is.

Thanks,

Dan

A big group of us are going up saturday morning at 9:00. Nancy Hastings, our coach, is running it. We swim from the north end of the lake.

We swam there regularly last year and plan our first OWS this weekend, but was thinking of Sunday.   Saturday could possibly work.

Any problem with others joining you?   What group are you with?  I'm not a very fast swimmer and my first OWS of the year is always a stretch for me.

Thank you for the info Smile

Would the group be fine with others joining in? My first Oly is in a week and I haven't taken a dip OW this season.....

Otherwise, Sun sounds good too...Cool

I just talked to Nancy and she said anyone is welcome she would just ask that you sign a waiver. There will be boat and in water support so it is a safe way to get in an OWS. Nancy is a great coach and her company is Second Wind Conditioning if you wanted to look her up.BTW - my name is Karen Vary and if you do come say hi!

Wow, that was nice of you to check with the coach and also really generous of her.   As it turns out, I can't swim tomorrow morning but would love to come another time.   Will you be swimming there on a regular basis?

We usually swim there about 10 times over the summer. Nancy also does several race simulations there as part of her coaching. If you send her an email at [email protected] she can give you all the details for future swims and race sims. She also does run and bike clinics!

Any idea what the water temp was?   How did it feel and how long were you in the water?   Plan on swimming tomorrow if the storms hold off.

It wa great to see Dan and George there this morning! They said the water was 58 degrees but to be honest it felt warmer than that! We were in for about and hour or so and did about 1800m. There were only 16 of us there (usually much more!) but I think the fear of the cold kept many away. It is a great group of people - all levels from those training for TATs up to Ironmans!

That was an awesome swim, nice to meet everyone there, I am looking forward to attend more!

Water was a bit cold at first, but after a few strokes or so, it got comfortable. I didn't realize we were swimming that far .... Smile

Thanks again for the info Karen! All the best to y'all doing Milton Tri next week.

When I had a look at my GPS tracks, it looks like the 400m end-to-end distance we covered was probably closer to 300m. At least in a straight line (which I definitely did not manage to do).

My sighting was so bad on the first lap that I ended up at the complete diagonal end of the lake. Oops. I forgot how disorienting it can be when I looked up and saw all these divers watching me on the wrong side!

I'm including a screen cap from Google Earth with my GPS track overlaid on top.
