Welcome!

No.  I almost did that when I first rode a bike as an adult.  Fortunately, I was told it would kind of defeat the purpose....

Unfortunatly the USAT just changed to rules to disallow that.

and no undies in bike or tri shorts.  They were designed to function without them, but if you decide you must, don't use cotton.  Just polypro and give them a whirl on a trainer ride or short distance ride first, so you can suffer the saddle sores for as little time as possible.

Nope... and there is a reason...

The added layer of material signficantly increases the problems with chafing, rubbing, bunching, etc....

I dont know all the proper way to say it but the pads are muchsmaller in tri shorts and II think dry alot faster. I could not run in my pearl izumis cause the pad is way to big.

so how do your tri shorts compare to the pearl's?

the biking leg should take less than an hour, so i suppose i'm not totally concerned about all out comfort. i just don't wanna have a sore butt to take my concentration away

I am still new to the whole tri world as well but I have wore my tri shorts on several hour and half rides and had no problem. At first it did not matter which shorts I had on my toosh still hurt. It is finally toughening up a little and as for training like I said I use chamois cream.

But overall the tri shorts have a thinner chamois which would allow for easier running and swimming because I have the Pearl 3d and its pad is huge!! Which I have been told once you get into longer rides then I might want to use the bike shorts. I am doing several centuries this summer and will wear those pearls.

People use that in areas to reduce friction but chamois cream is designed for your tooshy to reduce soars and such specific to that region. Body glide can be put everywhere feet, under arms, inner thighs, if you wear a wetsuit areas that rub along with that as well.
