Well, I'd like to say that it's the fact I'm an adrenaline junkie that got me into this, but alas, truth be told, four and a half years ago on my 30th birthday I drunkenly popped off with, "I'm gonna do a tri by the time I'm 35." While I've done a few 5k & 10k runs for the t-shirts, hurled myself thru class four and five white water rapids, jumped out of a perfectly good airplane, gotten lost on road rides on the coast of Sonoma after dark and left my face imprint on the side of one too many single track trails on my mtn bike I've never gotten around to training for that tri....until now.

Bday's in June. The gauntlet's been thrown. I'm in training.

I must say I forgot how good goals like this can feel. One thing I'm doing different right off the bat is not pushing myself. Research has shown me you don't have to kill yourself on every workout to get results and the heart rate monitor I picked up is probably one of the best things I could have done.

My big goal is June 6, my bday, Olympic distance tri here: http://www.tbfracing.com/04_eventdesc/04_tfr.htm

My starter tri to warm up is April 18 here: http://www.tbfracing.com/04_eventdesc/04_ibtri.htm

I've been training since just about Jan 1. Fell out of my gym routine about six months ago so I'm picking it up again slowly.

I corralled a couple girlfriends into training with me and see some semi-locals to Nor Cal on the boards. If ever you all wanna do a group train or something, let me know.

Ron, don't know you, but can't say enough how impressed I am with this site and the group conversing here. Look forward to picking all your brains.

Regards,

Nancy

Hey Nancy--

I'm one of your locals--I live (and train) in Berkeley, but my group (I train with 3 others) often goes up to do rides in Healdsburg and the surrounding areas. In fact, we are insanely considering doing the Healdsburg century in July.

I'm really excited for you. I'm 33 and started doing tri's about a year and a half ago (thinking it would be a one time thing) but now I'm a big fan. We were going to do Barb's race this year (which is a half iron-man in your area) but scheduling didn't work out. But mostly, I think: ME, a 1/2 iron man?? ME, the woman who practically crawled across the finish line at the Danskin sprint distance?

This could be you in a year and a half! Beware!!

Have fun with it, and if you'd like, I'll give you an e-mail when we come up to Dry Creek valley to do another ride. We sometimes finish them up with a little run just to get in our body used to that weird, weird transition!

Dana,

I'm training with three other girlfriends who I coaxed, cajoled, begged and pleaded with to do this first tri with me. We put our two groups together we got a tri club! haha.

Healdsburg century in July, huh? Hmmmmm, may have to consider. They have another one up here at the beginning of may sponsored by the local cycling club www.srcc.com that my friend did last year and I"m thinking of doing this year.

I'm also thinking of doing the vineman in August...the 1/2, that is. either barb's or the qualifier for Kona on the 1st.

Definitely let me know when you guys head up this way and I'll do the same when we plan a long ride....maybe after the T2 transition from bike to run we can add a T3 transition??? from run to cold beer at Bear Republic brewing company in downtown Healdsburg???

Just responded to you at another thread about Barb's race, but the T3 transition sounds pretty fine to me! I'll definitely keep your e-mail handy.

I have a lot of family up there (brother in SR, aunt and adult cousins in Healds. and mother in Cloverdale) so I'm up that way a lot. Maybe I'll travel up there with my bike more often on the chance that you and your 'club' are doing a ride and I can hook up with you.

I'm hoping that you are not too... accelerated though. I've got great endurance, but not a lot of speed!

me? accelerated??? lmao.
I'm one of those built for endurance, definitely not for speed. I'm the one who people bring along on rides for comic amusement and my ability to tell jokes and curse like a sailor as we're climbing hills. I'm also a lot of fun when we get lost after dark on the coast of sonoma (long but funny story...now that it's a year in the past of course...)

I'm definitely in it for the exercise, enjoyment and incredible views so no worries on me being speedy....damn, i can't wait til spring!!!

OK! Now this I can relate to! Comic relief is my bag! Maybe I'll catch your story at another time.

As for me, I really ought to start working now, as it IS 9:50 am and I've been on the clock now for 50 minutes, although I was distracted by a work related phone call at 9:10!

hiya!

nice to have you here! if you can tolerate the occasional face plant while mountain biking, you're gonna love tri! As much fun with a lot less danger. Except for that whole drowning thing, but we won't go into that right now I've heard Vineman and Barb's are both great races, too bad I'm on the wrong coast.
