I'll be in Niagara Falls on Friday and need to get a long ride in (5 hours or so). Anyone have any routes?

Thanks,
Kim

You may want to come to Grand Island. One time around the Island is about 20 miles. Many people go around many times to get in longer rides. It is a senic ride along the river and there is very little traffic.

SOunds good, I've done a tri there before (used to live in Roch)...where do you suggest I park and is there anything confusing about the route? I've got to do a 5 hour ride, for me that's usually just under 90 miles, 4 laps and an out and back should do it.

Thanks!!

I would park at the Holiday Inn http://www.myholidayinn.com . I would suggest heading to the West river first (take a right out of the Holiday Inn parking lot). After you go thru Buckhorn State Park make sure you follow the bike route that will take you down
West River Road
not the Parkway.

excellent!!

Just to be sure, right out of the parking lot is around the north end of the island?

Have you ever ridden from the Falls to Lewiston and along Lake rd?

That is correct. When you ride around in a counter clockwise direction you stay on the river side of the road and you don't have to deal with traffic coming off the side streets (except on west river road but there are only a few crossroads to the parkway).

I have never ridded from the Falls to Lewiston. I have ridden near Wilson along Lake Ontario; however, most of my rides are on the Island.

Jon, you totally rock!!! I'll be at the Holiday Inn at 6:30AM on friday if you are interested in joining me. I'm slower than you, but you could consider it a recovery day! I have to be in Rochester by 3:15 for a meeting, so an early start to this 5 hour mess is necessary.

Not that there will lots of us out there, but I'm on a Quintana Roo Seduza and I'll be in my stupid bright blue desoto shorts (they are the most comfy despite their hideous color)

Finger Lakes on sunday right, I hear its sold out. Otherwise...

You may be surprised how many people we see out there it is a pretty popular ride. I'm on a Felt B12 (hmmmm...our bikes will look good together ). Unfortunately, I don't have any bright blue shorts. Yeah Finger Lakes is on Sunday and sold out. I am just doing the sprint because I have a HIM in Austin on October 5th.

Are you staying in Niagara Falls?

I am, crowne plaza on states side thur and friday, then Sheraton on Canadian side for sat and sun. I was able to combine an interview in Rochester with a cheesy birthday weekend in the falls. That's why I need to do the long stuff on friday and Saturday, so I can enjoy myself a bit on sat night!

I will start in the dark so I can be ready for my afternoon. Let's hope I don't get run over by someone rushing to work.

Good call on the Canadian side...not much to do on the US side unless you like to gamble. There is a huge casino right across the street from your hotel.

most likely no gambling, but I've never done the stereotypical stuff-Maid of the Mist and the like, so that's my birthday plan. And dinner and drinks and drinks.
