I'm looking for a used bike. CHEAP! (Garage sale giveaway cheap). If anyone has a bike that they can't get rid of and is willing to give it to someone who will use it. I'll take it. I'm not too proud to beg. Embarassed

Have you checked on Craigslist? There were quite a few in the Detroit Metro area, as well as GR. I highly suggest looking around on there.

Yeah, I looked there. They don't have a "Free Take Me" Department.

From the free take me department:

"I have two bikes. One is a larger teenage size boys bike, needs work, and a smaller boys bike, needs a chain. "

Granted...might not fit you, but there's a free bike!

Keep in mind, free usually = trashed or in need of many parts.

Generally a free bike is going to need tires, cables, brake pads, etc. You may be better off sucking it up and just spending a couple hundred on something that's ready to roll.

BTW, how tall are you, perhaps we can help with sizing.

That's my issue. I'm 6'1" with very long sexy Laughing legs. My 26" 10 year old Wallmart Huffy mountain bike is to small for me. Also I'm married, this is where it gets political. If I can find a fix-er-upper for free then I can add on a little at a time. Shhhh don't tell her.

I would guess at 6' 1" with longer legs you're looking for something in the neighborhood of a 58.  I'm 5'10" and comfortably ride a 54.

Can you pull $425 out of the bank?

I have a 2003 Allez Elite triple 58CM with some nice upgrades for sale.

http://nmi.craigslist.org/bik/1274634350.html

It's been a great bike and needs nothing, ready to ride.

I'll be back in the Detroit area for a couple days next week, send me a message if you are interested.

As an alternate suggestion, Bike Tech ( http://www.biketech.us/index2.html  over on the Eastside is my LBS and has a good handful of used bikes for sale.  They also have some later model new bikes that you may be able to make a deal for (I bought my road bike here).  Brian, the owner can come off gruff, but has always been real good to me in terms of helping me learn how to adjust and maintain my bikes.
