Yep, for a few years now. I don't remember the exact model but it has a separate foam top (not the more expensive one with the foam build in) and two wired remotes, I'm thinking it was $3000 or there-abouts. I think at the time the wireless remotes were more $$$ and you got one remote with a switch for side 1 and 2, we preferred to have separate wired ones.

I could sleep on the floor and be quite happy, but my wife has chronic lower back pains, is a poor sleeper and works the night shift at times (she's an RN). It's by far the best bed we've ever owned and the best bed I've slept in hands down. My wife finds it the best bed for her too. I kinda don't like staying in expensive hotels now, their beds suck compared to ours.

When you are sore from working out, it's nice to be able to increase or decrease the firmness. The overall support is great too. Plus it's very light weight, super easy to move around if you need too. We have a 2 year old, she will play with the remotes now and then so we need to check the setting if things fell too soft or firm after busy fingers have been around.

I'd buy an other one.

Allright.  I HATE sleep number beds.  I am an airline pilot and sleep in a lot of different beds, and sleep #'s are the worst.  They do not hold air pressure that well, during the course of the night it will leak a little air and be softer than you set it the night before.  Their is a height differance when each half has been set to a seperate #.  I have rolled off of my 70 side to the side not set in the middle of the night before.

You might think it is the best thing in the world, but you couldn't pay me to own one.  We are shopping fo r a new bed as well, and will probably try a memory foam mattress.  I have never spent a night on one, and have heard they get hot, but they seem pretty good.

Good luck

Our Sleepnumber bed holds it's pressure just fine.

We've tried both the Tempurpedic style and rubber foam style beds. Liked the Sleepnumber one better. I think the rubber foam ones don't hold heat like the Tempurpedic foam ones (I could have that backwards, but yes one of them does hold heat).

Like I posted above, I could sleep on the floor and be just fine. My wife is the picky one with the chronic back pain and trouble sleeping, she actually sleeps in the Sleepnumber bed and does not nearly as well in all of the others we've tried.

We do have a 4" think Tempurpedic like foam mattress cover that we'll take with us on road trips to put ontop of Hotel beds. When I last did IMC that foam mattress topper was so nice to have post race. Heck we even took it to the hospital when our daughter was born to make the daddy bed in the room actually worth sleeping on.

I hope I didn't come across as confrontaional, that was not my point.  It could very well be that the beds I have been on are just beat up hotel beds.  Unfourtanatly it has left me with a negative impression.

To the OP, do they offer any kind of in home satisfaction guarentee.

Thank you both for your input.  I think they offer a 30 day return policy.  You did not sound confrontational to me.  I wonder if your poor experience with the sleep number beds is due to using them in motels where I bet a lot of kids play the inflate deflate game. ( hmm that may have a meaning I did not mean)

I take very little personal or confrontational on the internet unless it's explicit, so no worries.

I do not own one but have slept a dozen or so nights on it, I sleep pretty well but the problem I have with them (and I think this was pointed out earlier) is the distinct difference in "sides".  If one is harder than the other it has been very noticiable on the ones I slept on and I personally didn't like that.  I don't think I was on a top end model, maybe with pads and a more expensive model they can address that but that is what would keep me from buying one.  I am fortunate to be able to sleep on just about anything, I do think the concept is a good one.

Apart from using suitable bed for severe chronic back pain, one can adopt Postural Exercises programs to treat them effectively.

I have only slept on one Sleep Number bed for about a week while traveling for business.  I don't recall there being an issue with it leaking.  The reason I didn't like it was because I felt like I was sleeping on an air mattress.  I like a really soft mattress and maybe that is hard to accomplish with a Sleep Number.  The middle of my body sunk while my head and feet where higher up.  No thanks... I like my super soft pillow top.

My fiance and I have had one for about a year now. At this point I want to try and sell it. I actually have no problems with the bed, never had, but having it on 100 all the time on my side and wanting it stiffer kind of makes th $3500 spent pointless. I had slept on one before hand and thought it was a great idea. I agree it's odd that I have it maxed out and want it harder because I previously had a firm mattress and found it comfortable but it was getting soft.

I am willing to bet no one is sleeping on it at 100 out of those who have responded. Problem now is we would be luck to 50% out what we paid if we could find a buyer. I think Tempur pedic may be next but I fear it will be too soft for me. If it wasn't for bone contact I honest would just sleep on a sheet of plywood. Anything soft kills my lower back (really hip/siattic problem)

My thoughts are that I could never pay $2,000 for an air mattress.

We've had a sleep number bed for about three years.  I keep the pressure inflated to 100% before lying on it.  I've had no problems with air leakage over the period of a night.  Sure, the pressure may change of the course of a week, but it really has not changed that dramatically over the course of a night.

In essence, sleep number is a glorified air mattress that has sequential pockets of air.

I wouldn't spend lots of extra $$ on the additional memory foam.  We went out instead and picked up a 4 inch foam cover. It does the same thing and is much cheaper.

I switched from simmon's beautyrest black (a $3500) mattress.  That mattress killed my back.  It was too soft.

In the end, mattress comfort is in the eye of beholder.  Check out consumer's reports to gain additional perspective.

The good thing about sleep number--you can change the firmness of the mattress.  When I first started sleeping on it, I was at a 30.  Now, I fill it up as far as I can.  It is pretty comfortable.

I've slept on one for a week and, to me, it felt like an air mattress. I could also feel the 'seam' in the middle separating the two sides which was annoying if you like to sleep in the middle of the bed or cuddle  I would definitely do a in-home trial to make sure you like it.

As an aside, I recently read where there have been lawsuits due to black mold building up in the air chambers. I'm not sure if this is happening in more humid climates or more widespread but it is definitely something to think about. I believe that the manufacturer was addressing the problems well but for me it is just not worth the risk.
