Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tickets for Robin's show went on sale Tues at noon and were sold out in minutes, if not seconds. Fortunately, I secured 2 for last night in Mill Valley at a small theater, and Rachel and I had a great time laughing until it hurt. That man is one seriously funny man.... deranged too, which I like. ;-) Three hours after the show I awoke with a familiar pain. I kinda knew it was coming at some point as the CT scan had shown the rogue 5mm beast was ready to cause trouble. Actually, it had been causing trouble for a couple of months - the little bastard! So, it was 2 hours of serious laughter offset by 2 hours of serious pain- Funny how things seem to balance out in the end. Back to the monotony........ |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ugh - my FIL has the highest pain tolerance of anybody I know. He would barely wince if you cut his hand off. But... give him a kidney stone, and he's down for the count. I wouldn't wish those on my worst enemy... Hope it passes quickly, buddy. |

My wife gave birth to 3 kids. Our first son, natural with a local. The 2nd, a C-section due to complications, and the 3rd an emergency C-section after suffering almost 6 hours of labor with baby stuck in channel because they didn't know he was too big to complete the travel (now think bowling ball in a straw - isn't pretty and doesn't tickle). She had a kidney stone once and said it was THE WORST pain that she EVER felt! If she claims that, then THAT is something you don't EVER want to get. Hoping all is well with the OP! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Unfortunately, I've got far too much knowledge on the subject. My body likes to produce the mischevious little SOB's and I've passed 4 since November. I don't think this one is all the way out yet, but keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy exit. At least I had some pain meds this time...seemed to help a bit. |

Yeah, I have a kidney doc. Basically, I'm predisposed to creating them.... genetics. It seems I haven't created any new ones since November, but there are still 7 more that could pass at any time. Thankfully, they're all less than 3mm at this time. Still, it kinda sucks knowing what could be coming... Lots of water... drink lots of water. Also, I have to be careful of foods high in oxalate (bummer, I love blueberries!). |

The only reason I ask... and don't gasp.... is that I went in for a physical in Feb 2007 and they found a 1" benign tumor in my neck (parathyroid gland to be exact). This gland is responsible for calcium distribution to the blood from the bones. Since it was a tumor gland... hence fvcked up... it wasn't monitoring the calcium very well and was sucking too much calcium from my bones and then putting too much calcium in my blood.... causing all kinds of problems that I wasn't aware of, LOL!! So...... only through my physical did I find this... and they were VERY surprised that I had no kidney stones because I guess high calcium in blood causes kidney stones. I had the tumor taken out in June 2007... and I feel no different, except my blood tests are normal and I guess I won't be dying from kidney failure like I could have been... unbenowhnst to me!! So when I read you had alot of stones, I immediately thought "tumor in neck"... sorry... guilty by association, LOL! ... p.s... just make sure those blood test include calcium levels... not all do. |

So when I read you had alot of stones, I immediately thought "tumor in neck"... sorry... guilty by association, LOL! ... p.s... just make sure those blood test include calcium levels... not all do. that's great... yes you should pass it on. Calcium levels being tested in blood is somewhat new... and not all doctors are performing it. Yes be sure your FIL is having the calcium checked. I was 'sure' that nothing was wrong and that "I" did not have this thing.. this tumor... but I did... and just a small surgery corrected it. Here is an article on hyperparathyroidism... which is just another word for a "fvcked up" parathryoid gland. If you do a keyword search on "kidney" you will see how this disease (or tumor) is often found from patients complaining of kidney stones. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Whoa! Glad you and your docs caught it in time. I've had blood tests and they come back fine. Kidneys are functioning normally, though I do have one cyst that needs to be monitored. Basically, I have to drink lots of water to flush out the minerals in the kidneys that are the stone formers. That and diet are crucial. Thanks for the info. |

I work for a hospital and I can't tell how much is caught during the annual physicals... good to hear you are keeping up on them |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The little guy showed up again in the middle of the night to make my life miserable; even more so than the previous night. Hope it's passed into the bladder now.... the pain really is quite undescribable. "Ouchie" just doesn't fit. |
