Anyone on here going to run in this years race? Saw some posts from last year but so far no mention of tis year's event. This is my first tri and I entered the olympic distance 45-49 age group. I have lots of questions if anyone out there can help.

Thanks

I was thinking about doing this one for my first too... I'm also in the 45-49 AG... I'm SUPER slow though, I just hope I don't come in DFL (Dead F* Last)... But that's better than DNF (Did not finish)

Anyone know if the Hills are insane on this one?

Thanks for so many fast responses. I think my training is going well in the bike and run (I've covered the distances a couple times) but my training for the swim is slow. my longest distance so far is 700ms. Since this is my first one doesn't really matter how fast or slow just got to finish.
     Any hints on swim training.
Does this race close the course my wife ran in the Iron Girl in May and I understand that they left it open till everyone had finished.
I'm assuming this will be non-wetsuit race?

All for now but but thanks and I'll continue to pick your brains.

Swim training hints: try to swim with a masters group if your swim isn't that great and you need some help improving your stroke. if you want some practice open water swimming, there's usually tons of people at Lake Mead on Saturday mornings anywhere from 5:30 am to 7:30 am doing open swims. also LVTRI Club has a couple of "club events" and group swims. you can check the club's calendar to see if they are doing a group open swim and also check www.gvridez.com, sometimes we will post open swims there too.

Last year this was a non-westuit race. The water was HOT. This year I will be using a speed suit on the swim.

Hope that helps

The best advice I can give is try it out in training first . My buddy is a big Clydesdale (he's down to 280 now) and for his first sprint he just swim without a shirt and put one on for the bike.

Let's see:  I wear compression shorts and shirt for swim/bike/run then the only thing I deal with is socks.  The bike course is a loop that is approx.  300' elevation in both directions.  The back half has a bit a steeper incline and the front is just a long incline,  but the downhills are fun.  Oh yeah,  Make sure your bike is in a gear to get you up a steep climb out of the transition.

Yes thanks for all the info you've shared. This is my first experience and i must day all the people I've met have been fantastic.

Jackie Arcana at Excell runs a great clinic.

Although it's a bit of a drive Mark aBicycle Warehouse in Pahrump is a fantastic wrench as well as a wealth of info.

Again Thank you and look forward to seeing you next week.

P.S. You'll have to look over your shoulder to see me as I'm very slow

I picked up my race packet last night - and didn't get a Bib as they were having trouble with their printing... I sure hope it gets resolved quickly!  My swim cap is messed up as well... I may go to the pre-race Briefing tonight just to see if I can resolve these issues.
