I saw that on their Facebook page last week.   Frown  I was really looking forward to doing a race at Disney.  Maybe next year.

Seriously??  I wonder why...I was definitely planning on doing that since my last Oly (St Anthony's) had the swim canceled.

No reason given.  I was supposed to work it; we just got the notice today.

This is very dissapointing.  I have scheduled a whole family vacation around this race.  (I am from Wisconsin.)  Are there any other Tri's in the area on that weekend or is there any chance Disney will take over a race on this date?  There are other events I could have done but planned this trip to come down to Florida instead.  Rooms are paid for and tickets purchased so we are coming now anyway.

Your Florida options are limited that weekend unless you want to drive down to Key Biscayne Triathlon Trilogy Race #4 for a sprint.

Otherwise, if you're still in Orlando on the 27th you could do the Clermont, Florida:
Florida Challenge Sprint Triathlon.  This is a great, fast and fun race.
Or, if you're up for a 70.3 you could do the Clermont, Florida:
Florida Challenge Triathlon that same day.

Be sure to swim Lucky's Lake when you're here.  luckyslakeswim.com
Good luck with your plans.  I'm sure the vacation will be fun race or not.

I heard it was cancelled because the sponsoring companies could not afford to donate the money needed for the race

Unfortunately we won't be there then.  We are getting there on the evening of the 12th and were planning on leaving after the race on the 20th.

Disney sponsors all those running events I wonder why they don't sponsor a triathlon.

Thanks for all the info though.  I'll hope for a miricle that someone steps in to take over???

Curious, were/are refunds being offered for those who have already registered?

Try to move the trip a day forward and do the Downtown Orlando Triathlon on the 12th.  That will be a great spectator race for your fam.

The problem is getting the kids out of school another day early.  Is there packet pick up that morning?  I can check it out, but it might not work.  (We are driving and it is a 2 day drive.)

Thanks for everyone's thoughts.

Yes there will be packet pick up race day for OUC tri.  The same Race Director (Tom Ziebart) puts both races on (former AFC & OUC).  Tom frequents slowtwitch.com a lot so you could probably send him a message thru there.  But I know you can pick up your packet & rack your bike race morning for OUC.

OUC is a lot of fun, too - finish line with music, beer and food the year I did it, and lots of raffle prizes!

Disney ran the ran 05,06 07 then AFC took it over.  It sucked when disney did it....I did the race in 06 and it was a disaster

I did the race in 2006 and 2007. I agree. It was poor in 2006 but was much better in 2007. In 2007 the bike was 36 miles. It included a portion of the FL70.3 course and was a very good route.

A day doing a bad triathlon is better than a day sitting on the couch doing nothing! Smile
