At least I know we don't owe anything. Our quiet family day is now going to be taken over by our taxes. I have to figure out cost basis for stock that was reinvested over the last 10 years, and then had a spinoff. Its an asset, I know, but we saw a whole $12.64 from the whole deal and now I'll be earning about $2 an hour figuring out how to report it. GAH! So, here I sit, chugging coffee and whoofing carmel corn (4 oz, measured and calories tracked, thank you very much) and trying to do figure this all out. Hurrah for a rest day!

You all are making me realize that I am a big procrastinator.  Early on I got the tax software, put my documents together, and then.....

Taxes done!  Hefty refund in the mail.  I'm a big fan of Tax Cut software.  Makes it very easy. It also carries all the information from your previous year's return so you don't have to enter it every year (name, SS#, address, employer, family SS#, day care center, etc...)

For $12.64, don't even bother trying to report it. When/if they audit you, make THEM explain how to do it.

me too. we use turbo tax, but its the same thing (used tax cut one year). child credit is the bulk of our refund, so ours is a nice chunk of cash too. already picked out a new jogging stroller...and the rest will go towards savings/debt.

Just found out what I get back...... 20 bucks! :-( I was hoping that my tax refund would help me out with replacing my clutch or moving to FL. But no.... *sigh* Dinner's on me (but only for me).

it probably wasn't worth the stress of figuring it out, but then again i understand the whole thing now, so that's good. the in hand cash from a stock spinoff - $12.64. the stress relief of understanding that the whole thing is tax neutral - priceless!

Did mine Super Bowl Sunday.  Usually I'm getting money back, so I want to send it in as soon as possible.  I feel your pain on the stock stuff, we received a bunch of divendeds on stock we own, and after working through all the forms for about an hour, come to find out, we didn't get enough to make it taxable.  Oh and filling out all the forms for charitable contributions.  My wife cleans out the closets twice a year and everything goes to Good Will/Salvation Army.  And being an former accountant, she details everything.  But hopefully, the check will be hitting the account any day now.

we also gave a ton of charitable donations this year. two car loads to goodwill, several boxes of books and dvds to the local library, plus the cash donations we make every year.

they are finally filed and we're getting some back, which make the effort seem worth it (even though i know its a loan to the government that we're getting back...i STILL like that we're getting something back!)
