Who else is planning it? I've ridden many of the roads for the 100 mile route, but not all of them. I hope it has a great turnout. |

I would consider it hilly, but not very hilly since there are some flat stretches and a few longish downhills. This would be my first 100 as well and am looking at it as a fun event to go a moderate to comfortable pace. My goal is to make the 100. While there's a time limit, I don't think it would be a problem to average the 14 they say would be needed. I'm not a strong cyclist or climber, but I did a very hilly 40 mile, 4300' elevation ride and averaged about 13.4. My longest ride to date is 67 miles. If you do the 50 and want to ride an extra 25 immediately afterwards, you might be hard pressed to find enough flats in the area to get the distance you want without hills. My guess is that they will have a number of aid stations to "rest." Go for the 100 if you feel confident, you might be surprised at how well you do with proper pacing and such. |

I have riden out there before and somewhat know the course, but just dont know how 100 miles would go. My longest is 56 but it was fairly flat so the hills will change things. I am leaning to trying the 100 and catching a ride if needed. (I am not above this) Good to know there will be others out there just looking to finish. I have this vision of being the last person out on the course... |

At least they opened an airplane hanger for us to stay in for a while and passed out water. So, I'll just hang at home until it's time to go back. I feel bad for all those from out of town - we met some folks from Chicago, Duluth, and Toronto that came for the 100 mile. |

It was raining pretty good again about 1/2 hour into the race, and I was coming up on the turn from P to KP, behind the kwik trip in CP. I was going WAY too fast to make the turn, couldn't slow down enough cause of the rain, and tried to go straight up the road to slow down, but couldn't get back on course fast enough. I aimed for a notch in the curb, missed it, and landed in the grass on my shoulder. I didn't feel any pain, so I got myself back together, and looked at my bike. The front tire was flat, so I hooked up the pump, and tried to see if it would reflate. The pump wouldn't work, tried it on a spare tube. I finally figured out that the pump wasn't pushing in valve to let air in. I fiddled with that for about 20 minutes, borrowed a pump from the guy who was changing the signs around for the return leg, and found the tire was NG. So while I'm changing the tube, the sag wagon comes along, and waits. By the time I get the tube changed, my should is hurting, so I pack it in w/o inflating the tire and DNF. Back at the airport after most of my teamates get back, I borrow a pump, pump up the tire, and ride back to the parking lot. My left shoulder HURTS when I try to get on the handlebars, so I know I probably would not have finished the race if my pump worked. Next year has to be better! |

I have a pump you can have if you want it. Not sure how much pressure it can put out but I intended to use it with a road bike. It has been sitting in a drawer for about 3 years without any use. |
